🌟 National Patient Advocacy Day - August 19, 2024 🌟 Today, we recognize National Patient Advocacy Day is a vital moment to highlight the importance of advocating for patients' rights and well-being, especially in mental health care. Advocacy ensures that everyone receives the care, respect, and support they deserve. Key Aspects of Patient Advocacy 1. Empowerment: Advocates help patients understand their rights, treatment options, and the importance of their voice in their care. 2. Support: Providing emotional and informational support to patients, ensuring they feel heard and valued. 3. Access to Care: Advocates work tirelessly to ensure patients have access to necessary treatments, resources, and mental health services. Let’s celebrate the dedicated advocates who make a difference in patients’ lives and commit to being strong voices for mental health care. 💙 #PatientAdvocacyDay #MentalHealthMatters #EmpowerPatients #SupportAndCare #ModernMePsychology

[ONLINE THINKTANK]: Anti-depressant deprescribing and withdrawal is an issue that people with lived experience have borne the brunt of for years. It is only now, through concerted efforts of people with direct experience themselves and allies, that evidence and broader interest is starting to be paid to this critical issue. LELAN is commited to ensuring people with lived experience are centred or leading these conversations and related advocacy efforts in Australia. In seeking to activate people from the grassroots individual experience level through to collective systemic focused action we know that understanding the perspectives of clinicians, academics and interested others will help us to shape the messages and recommendations for how we best proceed strategically. This ThinkTank is for clinicians, academics and other people interested in contributing to deprescribing protocol advocacy efforts in Australia to raise awareness, contribute to messaging and begin to influence broader change. Today, I had the privilege of listening to insightful discussions from key figures in mental health advocacy, including Prof. Tsuyoshi Akiyama, President of the World Federation for Mental Health, and Prof. Rory O'Connor, President of the International Association for Suicide Prevention. Together, we reflected on lessons from #WorldSuicidePreventionDay and explored strategies to maximize advocacy efforts as we approach #WorldMentalHealthDay. Key takeaways included: Engaging persons with lived experience and youth Leveraging data and evidence for impactful advocacy Reaching policymakers to drive policy changes Looking forward to applying these strategies and making meaningful contributions to mental health advocacy!

Relational practice in therapeutic residential care - Part 1. What does that mean? Forming new relationships, joining new groups, changing jobs, moving home can be challenging for any social animals - especially if their backgrounds and early-life experiences have been insecure, disrupted or exposed to violence and fear. The video shows how an individual experienced such a move of home to a new group. (there is a part 2 to follow!). #therapeuticchildcare #therapeuticcommunities #relationalpractice #equineassistedlearning
