🏛️ South Dakota State University’s campus is 387 acres, and is home to more than 160 buildings. It’s a place where thousands of faculty, staff and students live, work and learn every day. For Facilities and Services, #SDState operates like “a city within a city.” Dozens of workers spend countless hours cleaning, servicing and maintaining campus and its operations. Campus has evolved throughout time and has grown considerably in recent history. According to Facilities and Services, since 2010, 30 buildings have been constructed, enhancing the student experience. New residence halls, academic buildings, athletic facilities and agriculture structures are now an integral part of the SDSU experience. Facilities and Services has also been able to oversee the renovation or revitalization of some of our more historic campus buildings. Recent projects include iconic structures like Lincoln Hall, First Bank and Trust Arena and the Coughlin Campanile. Reflecting on an Enlightening Experience at the APA National Planning Conference! Last week, from April 13th to 16th, I had the immense privilege of attending my first APA's National Planning Conference in Minneapolis. As a current Masters student in Regional Planning, this was not only my inaugural planning conference but also a phenomenal opportunity to apply the knowledge I've acquired over my first two semesters! The conference was a deep dive into the core areas of equity, community, and transportation. Each session provided valuable insights into their implementation within the US context, greatly enhancing my understanding and appreciation of the intricate planning processes. One of the highlights was participating in the workshop on "Long Range Planning Implementation in the Midway Neighborhood." It was fascinating to see how planners are navigating the complex political landscape while balancing the needs and perspectives of local neighborhoods and developers, particularly in relation to Transit-Oriented Development goals in the Hamline Midway Neighborhood of the Twin Cities. I left the conference enriched with knowledge and eager for more such academically stimulating experiences. "'SAVE THE SCIENCE CENTRE' 'Therefore we, the undersigned, petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to enact the following measures: (1) Immediately invest in repairing the current Ontario Science facility where it is currently located (2) Hold and respect community consultations about the Ontario Science Centre's future Will you sign? -- Whereas, the Conservatives' their ‘business case’ that shows the one-time cost of relocating the Ontario Science Centre to Ontario Place would be twice the cost of completing the necessary repairs at the current site. -- Whereas, moving the Science Centre will take a vital public institution away from Flemingdon Park and Thorncliffe Park simply to justify Ford's vanity mega-spa project. -- Whereas, communities have not been consulted about Ford's half-baked scheme. -- Wheras, the business case assumed that the new, half-sized Science Centre would be built on top of a new, publicly funded parking structure located next to the proposed Therme spa. Is it possible to become an architect and an entrepreneur with a severe autoimmune condition? The answer is yes 🚀 David and I met only a few times when I was first diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, a pivotal moment in my health journey. I had always hoped for an opportunity to discuss the condition in depth with him, and after 14 years, I finally got the chance. David, a practising conservation architect in ecclesiastical and heritage architecture from the North-East of England, shares an intimate glimpse into his journey with RA, diagnosed at the tender age of 15.
