HPM Research Associate Emily Kumpf shares her perspective on suicide prevention through the personal account of her lived experiences she had written for the American Psychiatric Association's Psychiatric Services journal. In her account, Kumpf states that "a lived experience perspective is invaluable in the research world" and "it is critical to include a multitude of perspectives of people with suicide-centered lived experiences, not just as participants but as experts in all stages of the research process." Kumpf also shares questions she had asked herself while recovering from a mental health episode, such as if she should stay quiet about the episode to avoid people potentially viewing her differently and whether or not she'd still be respected if people knew her story. Learn more about Kumpf's mental health journey and how a lived experience perspective can inform suicide prevention research: https://lnkd.in/ddbUyWSE #SuicidePreventionMonth

🌟 May is Mental Health Awareness Month! 🌟 At Aurora Behavioral Health, we are dedicated to providing comprehensive mental health services that cater to the unique needs of our patients. As we strive to break the stigma surrounding mental health, we believe it is crucial to shed light on the various treatment options available, including Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT). ECT is a safe and effective treatment that can bring relief to individuals struggling with severe mental health conditions such as treatment-resistant depression, bipolar disorder, and certain types of schizophrenia. Contrary to common misconceptions, ECT is administered under carefully monitored conditions by our experienced medical professionals to ensure the utmost safety and comfort of our patients. We understand that seeking help for mental health concerns can be daunting, which is why Aurora Behavioral Health offers a range of outpatient programs in addition to our inpatient psychiatric services. Our goal is to provide a positive continuum of care that supports our patients every step of the way on their journey to wellness. If you or a loved one could benefit from ECT or any of our other mental health services, do not hesitate to reach out to us. Remember, you are not alone, and there is always hope for a brighter tomorrow. Let's continue to raise awareness, foster understanding, and support one another in our mental health journeys. Together, we can make a difference. 💙 #HopeAtAurora #MentalHealthAwareness #AuroraBehavioralHealth

Data shared by Evernorth Health Services shows that children and adolescents (ages 17 and under) are seven times more likely than adults (18 and older) to experience suicidal ideation. If your child has expressed thoughts of harming themselves talk with a mental health professional. The intensive outpatient programs at Embrace U are designed for quick intervention to help adolescents develop the communication and coping skills needed to manage symptoms of a mental health challenge like depression and anxiety. #mentalhealthawareness #suicideprevention #therapy

There are less than a quarter of the number of behavioral health professionals required to meet the needs of the US population. Fewer that 35% of these provide services to children or adolescents. During adolescence, the way in which individuals express, articulate or cope with distress differs from adults. Effective treatment requires clinicians trained to recognize those cues and implement effective strategies tailored to the developmental stages of youth. Timely access to adolescent tailored care helps to reduce the likelihood of persistent or future mental health crises, which is why all of Vita Health’s clinicians are expertly trained in youth mental health care. #mentalhealth #therapy #healthcare
