One of the tasks I really enjoy as part of my work with IPAA Queensland is crafting our monthly Insights. Between Andrew Wills, Vendula Habrova and I, we put together the latest on insights on what is happening in the public sector, and share details on the events happening on our calendar. If you are in the sector, and haven't subscribed - you should (you can do it on the IPAA Queensland website...nudge nudge). This month, I had the pleasure of crafting a little paper on success and failure in policy, and how to fail forward with flair (see link below). This paper was inspired by Josh Richards - our fabulous keynote who spoke at our major flagship event a few weeks ago. His personal narrative had me thinking about the importance of the little details and how much they matter. And - while Josh's context was more-than-a-little different to what public servants face on the daily (anyone here done any prep for travelling into deep space...I know I haven't!), the fundamental concept of details being important rings true across the contextual divide. As I wrote in the paper... "...those in the public service know that the consequences of not paying attention to the details can lead to pretty devastating results. When it comes to designing and implementing policy, the focus on not only the objective, but the process itself is key..." So in light of this, I took a quick look at what the literature says about policy success and failure...and like all things, it isn't only the objective that matters...but how you go about achieving that objective. Ultimately, it isn't necessarily what you do that is the only thing that matters, but how you go about doing it. #publicpolicy #success #failure #process #details I also get the sneaky sense that this narrative probably applies to contexts beyond the public sector and deep space travel preparation too...?? https://lnkd.in/gYszBpfX

This was a fabulous article Patricia Galliford. I love your insights and exploration of the importance of getting the details right in the public sector was a great way to posit Josh’s keynote.
