➡️ To my #Carolinas network! ⬅️ The demand in the Multi Family market has naturally dipped due to interest rates, but Healthcare seems to be a hot topic from businesses I've spoken with. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on what you think the next 12 month holds for the region. Please let me know your thoughts below! #construction #usa #carolinas

Optimism is delaying your construction project. Sounds counter-intuitive right? Not according to a study by KPMG. Only 25% of construction projects finish within 10% of their original deadline according to a 3 year study. This originates from the bidding process where in a need to be competitive, general contractors draft optimistic and aggressive schedules while overestimating how much work can be completed in the allotted timeframe. Once the project starts is often where reality hits. The complexity of the project comes to surface, risk and other issues compound and cause delays the project deadline. In their study, KPMG highlighted that less than 30% of projects were completed within 10% of the original budget - which can be an eye watering amount for owners! One way to address this issue is to have an independent reviewer evaluate the project before it even starts, although this is rarely going to be a practical solution. What other systems or methods could be put in place to support this? Or will delays continue to be a known and expected outcome on construction projects? #construction #USA #Buildpartners

To my network that have relocated for a new position... I'd be keen to hear your thoughts on this. The vast majority of companies that I've spoken to will consider relocators for their roles, but won't offer any financial support to the moving costs (unless at a Senior level, VP or above). Most of the candidates I speak with about relocating are asking for their expenses to be paid for, which can create a bit of a stalemate. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts and experiences on the Poll below! 👍 #usaconstruction #construction #BuildPartners

"We're working with 5 other agencies to fill this role" The words no recruiter wants to hear. More is better right? not always, especially when it comes to representing your brand in the market. Some of the downsides of engaging several recruiters to fill the same role(s): ❌ Candidates getting spoken to by several agencies, making your company look desperate/unorganized ❌Several agency briefing calls taking you away from your day-to-day of running projects ❌ No real partnership with the recruiters, not feeling that they 'get' your business and culture ❌ More headaches, you'll get sent the same resume from several people and get into arguments over ownership of who has the right to represent. So what are the benefits of working with less recruiters on your roles? ✅Recruiters can take their time to plan their searches and Headhunt the best people for your roles without feeling that they're in a race of 'who has the quickest hands' ✅ Will take the time to fully understand the business culture and ethos, matching those that they feel will fit in with the business ✅ Less time spent speaking to agencies repeating your ideal profiles, criteria etc ✅ Provides a better candidate experience and reflects well on your brand ✅ You'll get priority and commitment from your recruiter to fill your roles. If you're working with several agencies, I'd argue that half of them won't even be actively searching for you. Some of the smoothest processes I've had are from meeting with committed clients who partner with max 1-2 recruiters and take the time to really understand their needs - this reflects on how well I can do my job in representing your organization and ultimately getting you the best people. Preparing for an online Teams/Zoom interview might sound simple but you'd be surprised at how many #construction professionals overlook the basics. Here's a few of the most notable that I've received from feedback recently, hopefully this helps the #Superintendents and #ProjectManagers out there that are interviewing right now! ✅ Have your camera switched on - face to face is always preferred but isn't always practical, so if you have to have an online interview try to mimic this as much as possible by having your camera switched on and being engaged throughout. ✅ Remember the details of some of your notable projects - project type, value, duration and specific details, did you face any major challenges? how did you overcome them? what were you proud of? you should be able to reel off several projects off the top of your head. ✅ Why are you looking for a new role? be as honest and transparant as possible about this. Are you a relocator? if so, why this location? Are you lacking progression? then expand on this and why you can't get this at your current company. ✅ Of course it's always preferable to interview somewhere quiet but this isn't always practical if you are out in the field. If you need to interview from your truck make sure that you're somewhere that you won't get disturbed and have a good connection. These are just a few but I think if implemented will definitely help you finding your next role. What else would you add to the list? #construction #USA #BuildPartners

Nothing you do on site today will be as important as going home to your family and loved ones. I read an article recently on health & safety statistics across the United States #construction industry and found it eye opening. Everybody thinks "It'll never happen to me" or "I'll just do this quickly, it'll be fine" but is it worth putting yourself at risk? 🚫 There are approximately 1069 fatal accidents across the United States construction industry each year. 🚫 More than 65% of deaths are caused by falls, electrocution, or being struck by an object. 🚫 Businesses with less than 20 employees account for approx 66% of all work-related fatal injuries. 🚫 There were 169,600 non-fatal construction injuries recorded in 2022. All of which is wholly unacceptable. So my question to my #USA network.... What can be changed or implemented in order to reduce these numbers? #construction #healthandsafety #OSHA
