As I watched the Leadership Florida account post the announcements of my fellow #CornerstoneClass41 members, I had a flashback to the beginning of my journey with this program, and it's time for some real talk about it. I was intrigued when I was asked to attend a recruitment meeting for the program, but when I read the profile of their target member, I thought, "They must have sent this to the wrong person." I was at a very frustrating point in my career and did not feel like I was Leadership Florida material, but I took a chance, applied, and was selected. When I stepped into that first session, and we all left our titles at the door, I was reminded that sometimes, when you are in the whirlwind of your current situation, you may start to convince yourself that you aren't whom you have always known yourself to be. In these times, you need to force yourself to take a step back and evaluate what is wildly important to you and make a plan to achieve what you know you are capable of achieving. I want to thank every one of my classmates who reminded me of that and put me on an amazing path of personal and professional growth over these last several months. I am simply a better person for sharing this experience with some of the most amazing individuals I've ever met in a single program, neck and neck with my LEADERSHIP COLLIER FOUNDATION Class of 2020 friends, of course! If there is anything I hope someone reading this takes away, it's to be true to yourself and the core of who you are. Do not let any external factors that are out of your control affect your view of yourself. Shut out the noise, identify what is in your control and use that to effect the change you need in your life. I know that I belong, and that has made all the difference.
