And it’s a wrap, a fabulous AFM Tech day was enjoyed yesterday in Amsterdam, brilliantly organised by Krisztina Kasza and the Association of Futures Markets team, supported by Exberry and a series of other sponsors, including Exchange Invest. Excellent participations all round, including Hamish Adourian of Sinara and Stuart Turner of Avenir Technology Limited making a stunning impact on the cloud technology sessions while a personal highlight was chairing the data panel. Said highlight was not driven by my own chairing per se but the magnificent participation of Mark Schaedel (DataBP, Professor Albert J. Menkveld (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam)), Paul Humphrey (BMLL) and Louisjan Bonthuys (HousingAnywhere) where we roamed from data clarity to GIGO (Garbage In - Garbage Out) Issues all the way to - what else? - the spectre of AI! Thanks again to everyone who participated in an excellent session and thanks again to the great AFM team led by Chairman Pat Kenny, President Chris Sturgess and Secretary General Kriszti Kasza. #TechDay2024 #Exchanges #ClearingHouses #Innovation #Fintech

I thoroughly enjoyed chairing this panel with a magnificent array of data mavens at the AFM Tech Day yesterday in Amsterdam.
"Data never sleeps" noted Patrick Young (Exchange Invest) in his introduction to the panel devoted to the DNA of markets. "Data is your shop window" noted Mark Schaedel of DataBP while Professor Albert J. Menkveld (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam) asked the question "Are we better off than a decade ago?" while pondering the fact that data overload is an issue. Paul Humphrey of BMLL was noting the material growth in institutional traders during the past decade and worrying "Garbage In Garbage out" was still an issue in a world which nowadays values refined "clean" historical data. Louisjan Bonthuys of HousingAnywhere pointed out how the retail 'fintech' and customer business channels are vastly ahead of the B2B finance markets in their deployment of user friendly data analysis tools including low and no code methods. Appropriately it was a big data download with some fascinating insights to big data in the mix too. In the end, a Bayesian result: tomorrow's data will be shaped by today's panel all the way to the next AFM event in Nairobi Kenya next February." Stay connected with us as we continue the conversation on the future of exchanges, clearing houses, and data innovation. #AFMYourFutureMarket #TechDay2024 #BigData #DataAnalytics #Exchanges #ClearingHouses #DataInFinance

A magnificent insight into everything wrong with government salaries where you can be London nightclub 'czar' and garner 6 figures Sterling for doing not a lot apparently (…and has fortunately - finally - resigned after overseeing a massive decline in London nightlife). Anyway, UK Gov was recently advertising for a head of Polish trade relations - a top 15 UK trading partner with circa $40 billion in trade between the two nations (which grew 15% last year) with remuneratin to the tune of 33,000 Pounds per annum. A local sous chef position was available simultaneously in the same SW1 Westminster region paying 40,000 pounds PA. So you get 20% more as junior burger flipper in a chain eatery than you do for managing a $40 billion trade portfolio. Perhaps readers can deploy their intuition (whether feminine, gender fluid, masculine whatever…) to shed light on why the UK economy might be suffering some, er, structural difficulties in the commercial realm? Navigating the complexities of the world can be overwhelming.
