I've been an Engineering Manager at BioRender for 2.5 months now. So far so great. Why so great? A few reasons stick out: - A lot of companies talk about being mission driven, but I've been surprised and delighted at just how much we use our mission to accelerate the world’s ability to learn, discover, and communicate science to guide decisions. - BioRender's business fundamentals are strong because our users love our software. As a member of the Enterprise team, we have a classic set of "good problems to have" because end user scientists who work within schools and companies lobby their bosses to buy BioRender in creative ways. - It is very clear why I was hired -- I already feel valued. There's a lot of work to do. Some of that "work" are problems I know how to solve, and the rest of it are problems I'm excited to learn how to solve. We've got teams to build, an inclusive culture to grow, and a strong vision to realize. So if helping scientists communicate sounds like your jam, we are hiring for hella roles across the company.

Last night, I had a dream where a friend referred me to a small firm for a job. Upon arrival, the boss dismissed me immediately, saying he didn't like me. I calmly told him that he had done me a huge favor, as maybe I would have been miserable there. 🌟 When I woke up, I started thinking about how many people are dismissed or denied opportunities due to prejudices or snap judgments. It made me realize the importance of giving people a chance and considering them beyond first impressions. 🌍✨ Everyone deserves an opportunity to prove themselves. I caught up with Mark Edwards this morning, a credible leader in the Engineering Team in Dries.... 💊 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐭𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐣𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲... I started in May last year as an MTL, previously I worked in the food industry, so the change in environment has been challenging but in a positive way. I've learnt new processes, new ways of working, and new legalisations. Currently I am working with a strong team, who have been welcoming and open to share their knowledge as and when I have asked. Also, I have felt empowered from an early stage, to lead my team of engineers whilst managing and implementing my ways of working. There is huge scope for progression in the company and it is a challenge I am very much looking to fulfil in the near future. 💊 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐭𝐭? No two days are the same... You take full ownership of your responsibilities, and the way in which you drive your team, whilst overcoming day to day challenges. This year, I will be getting involved in large projects involving upgrading of equipment and new equipment installations, which I am looking forward to. I especially enjoy my team and the department as a whole, everyone works well together, shares their knowledge, and its done with high team spirits despite the fast pace of the factory. 💊 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐭𝐭'𝐬 𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞? My perception before I joined was that it would be very intense and all about how fast you can get the product out of the door! However, it has surprised me since joining how strong the company values actually are & how we are always putting our people first...it really does happen! 💊 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐚 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤-𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮? It’s been brilliant since I have been here! I have no 'outside of work' calls/messages once I leave the site. This allows me quality time with my family which is really big for me. Also, my manager has allowed me to adjust my shift slightly due to personal reasons, so he has been very accommodating and understanding, and as a result of this I don’t take any stresses home with me. 💊 𝐅𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐭𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭? From bugging a senior for a build error to enhance the performance of functions, and from being annoyed by simple questions from mentees to learning from them daily, I've come a long way 👣. Three years back, when I looked at the product #SpectumPower7 and compare it to today, I feel immense pride in being a part of its evolution.
