The race has officially begun! We shared a picture of Seamore last month and now we can kick off the Tour de Turtle alongside NaVetor. Beginning today through November 1, you can watch Seamore chart a path throughout the sea as she starts just east of Orlando. For sailors crossing the equator for the first time, the traditions and rituals of 'crossing the line' remain an important rite of passage. Time at sea is by its very nature isolating, and even on a very short voyage a strong sense of community, albeit a temporary one, is often created. Traditions, ritual and celebrations are an important part of ensuring unity and staving off boredom. Perhaps one of the best known and longest enduring traditions is the initiation ceremony of ‘Crossing the line’ or ‘Sea Baptism’, which takes place when a ship crosses the equator. The first recorded descriptions are from around 400 years ago and its origins remain hazy. There are some suggestions that it formed an important test to ensure the men you were sailing with, and thus dependent upon, were able seafarers. A different interpretation is much more steeped in superstition – appeasing Neptune the god of the sea before ‘crossing the line’. See Captains Action @captainsaction5732 for the video and more !

What’s in a name? Everything! Naming a boat is about capturing the essence of your seafaring spirit and having a unique identity on the open seas. Start your nautical journey with these 3 invaluable boat naming tips: 1. Keep it brief—One to two words. 2. Personal significance — Incorporate elements from your life, such as your name, family heritage, or meaningful dates. 3. Ask for input — Involve family, friends or fellow boaters in the naming process. They might offer creative insights or catch potential issues with the name that you hadn’t considered. #NameYourBoat #LaVictoire

Dive into the Depths: Zeester's Cleanup Mission on Wreck Elpis Our partners, the Zeester wreck diving team, have been dedicated to their mission in recent months, embarking on their latest expedition to the submerged vessel, Wreck Elpis: Zeester's primary objective was to address a ghost trawler net entangled with the wreck. Trawl nets, resembling funnels, are designed to catch fish and crustaceans, and this one continued to do its job even after it was abandoned or lost. During their underwater venture, the team uncovered crabs and lobsters 🦞 ensnared by this net. With remarkable skill, they successfully retrieved a significant portion of it and are committed to returning to remove the entire net from the wreck, ensuring the local marine ecosystem can once again thrive. Today, this once-harmful net has found a new, sustainable purpose within the circular economy. Do you want to learn more about our approach? Using a fuzzy-based approach we used a suit of criteria for selecting suitable locations for artificial reefs deployment in Kish Island in the northern Persian Gulf. This method uses fuzzy-based analysis to evaluate the effect of various factors (e.g., distances to active diving clubs, water temperature, water clarity, depth, currents, and the presence of natural reefs or marine life) that may impact the success of artificial reefs.
