Here’s some news/update from Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC): Submissions Now Open for EGBC Project Highlights The Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC) has announced that submissions for the Project Highlights are now open, inviting members to showcase their innovative projects and achievements. This initiative provides a valuable opportunity for professionals to gain recognition for their work within the engineering and geoscience community. Trust and Awareness: BC Residents Speak on #Engineering and Geoscience A recent survey of 865 British Columbians revealed intriguing insights into the engineering and geoscience professions. While 68% expressed familiarity with engineers—primarily recognizing their roles in design and safety—only 31% understood what geoscientists do. Trust in engineers has risen to 90%, while geoscientists garnered 60% trust. Despite a slight increase in awareness of Engineers and Geoscientists BC, only 24% recognized its regulatory role, highlighting the need for better public education on the importance of oversight in these crucial fields. Tomorrow is the LAST DAY to register for the NYSCPG and Midwest GeoSciences Group two-day collaboration course aimed at guiding professional groundwater scientists, engineers, project managers, and all others who are tasked with subsurface work. Course Elements •Understand how fluid flow and contaminant transport in fractured rock fundamentally differs from granular porous media. •Conceptualize fracture flow and contaminant transport at the field-scale for a variety of rock types, fracture patterns, and tectonic settings. •Distinguish between discrete fracture network and equivalent continuum representations, including simplifying assumptions and suitable applications. •Link fracture attributes such as orientation, density, length, spacing and clustering to fluid flow and contaminant transport behavior. •Apply site-specific fracture information to develop transport predictions and remedial strategies. •The New PFAS Workshop that has been added this year The course will provide 16 PDH credits for NY PGs and PEs, 960 minutes for Pennsylvania PGs, and Certificate from West Chester University for attending the course in its entirety.
