You know what... SAURABH SINGH I look at things differently... &, therefore need to apply utmost discretion...before I say...or write something. Particularly... on sensitive medals tally of Indian Paralympics team. I must thank you... that you did not tag #NaMo, or thanked him in a profuse .manner ... for this grand success. Usually, everybody in India does it. More acceptable .the flavour of the season. In no remotest way, to diminish personal success received by each winner... & beyond winners...even to participants. It is the strength of the character...that undeageatible character...in India...and beyond India... that human spirit... That we all salute. In this moment of pride, I believe, it is appropriate to look at our #Blacksheeps as well... We should not all be drunk with the einey liquor of success and celebrate... But paise... and critically re-examine how the nation has treated #VineshPhogat ... is it because she failed to win a medal... or "we" did not want her to win a medal... or Or ... whatever incidents and accidents happened... Or stories like these... "Indian para-athlete forced to beg" https://lnkd.in/gChRh6Au And we in India know well stories like above are rare in India... they rather are the norms... And not exceptions... And...the medal tally... for the most populous nation of the world...does not speak anything great... but big... big shame... Purely... out of curiosity... I checked disability population in India... and in China. Was surprised to see much low for India .. 2.21% in India vs 6.34% in China...of respective population ... 2021 data... Whatever be the reason or truth...my bias was it to be much higher for India... due to our malnutrition in women...or in children... or lack of universal vaccination. However the data proved me wrong... At the same time... my skeptical mind does not rule out the possibility of we undercounting our handicapped section of population... Just a research bias... you know...we all suffer from it. However, this contemporary paper puts it at 4%... and I acknowledge that Para-Olympics Organisers have defined degree of handicappedness for qualifying norms too. Whatever be the truth... cause... facilities we provide to our not so lucky section of our populace... deeper probing is needed. I usually get pissed off by our... "Indians" habit of being the first...foremost...biggest clappers on any such story.. presented as #ProudMomentOfIndia story... Upon investigation, such stories, often hide deeper rotting society of ours...and present "A shining Image of India"... which actually is...wrong...most often. Felt... it is important to share this contrarian views too... at this #PartyTime of celebrations. I again congratulate each of the winners...participants...for their indomitable spirit. https://lnkd.in/gTCepzvq

Recently, I met Sumit Antil and his coach Mr. Arun Kumar on a flight. Sumit is the Paralympics world record holder for Javelin throw. In the last two years he has set new milestones in the event with a current record of 73.29m. For reference, these days the silver medalists come in 5 to 9 meters behind him. Speaking to Sumit and Arun, I got some great insights into his personal journey and the javelin throw event in general. 1. Sumit was an aspiring wrestler. However, he lost a leg in a road accident. Refusing to be bogged down, he looked for other events and finally settled on javelin. He overcame a number of issues and over the years has firmly established himself at the top of the world in this event. 2. At this time Sumit continues to break his own records and is looking to cross 80m in javelin. This is a competitive number even for the regular event. 3. Arun spoke about how the performance of Neeraj Chopra has inspired other athletes. Previously, while Indian javelin throwers used to aim for 80m, at this time more than 5 athletes consistently achieve 80m and are looking to overtake Neeraj some day. What Neeraj Chopra has achieved is much more than his personal records and medals in the event. He has shown a generation of athletes what is possible and to aim high. I hope we have similar role models in other sports soon. Personally, I can't think of a better example of resilience and overcoming adversity. Deep respect Sumit. May you break the 80m mark soon and see you in Paris in August 2024. #resilience #overcomingfear #overcomingchallenges #overcomeadversity #sports #paralympics #perseverance #paris2024 #paris #olympics2024 #paralympics

HELP Required... Yes, I need help to decipher the outcome of 2 biggest sporting events #Olympics 2024 & #paralympics 2024 in #Paris Olympics we (India) sent a contingent of 117 athletes & we got 6 medals Paralympics we have sent a contingent of 84 athletes & we are already at 20 medals as of today morning. It translates to 0.05 Medal/athlete in olympics & a staggering 0.24 medal/athlete in Paralympics...almost 4.8 times. Why such a huge difference? There is no doubt that our athletes were the best & are equally passionate about the sport they are playing. So why such a huge difference in results? One potential reason I could think of is LACK of #Expectations Yes, you read it right...given the situation of our Paralympic athletes, expectations from them were perhaps lower nor presumably they have this humongous pressure of doing well in life. Not because they aren't capable (they are super capable & they have proved it) but because people like me think what best they can do. We don't give them a chance & that's a harsh truth, we may want to disagree with but it's reality. What it effectively means is that #pressure does not necessarily bring the best out of you. You have to be mindful of building both pressure & expectation only to an extent to enhance performance. Please help me find more reasons... Despite physical setbacks, their unwavering dedication and grit helped them make history at the Paris 2024 Paralympics. 🏅7 Gold 🥇9 Silver 🥈13 Bronze 🥉This record-breaking achievement is not just a testament to their talent but also to their unbreakable will to rise after every fall. 🏅 Avani Lekhara, after facing life-altering challenges, went on to become a two-time Paralympic champion in shooting. 🏅 Sumit Antil, whose journey began after losing his leg in an accident, set a new world record in javelin to defend his title. 🏅 Harvinder Singh, despite facing his own physical hurdles, made history by winning gold in archery. 🏅 Praveen Kumar battled setbacks but soared to new heights, setting an Asian record in high jump. 🏅 Kapil Parmar, overcoming his limitations, brought India its first-ever Paralympic judo medal. Competing across 12 disciplines, India's athletes have truly made every Indian proud by winning a record 29 medals - 7 golds, 9 silvers, and 13 bronzes. Interestingly this performance surpassed our medal tally from Tokyo 2020, marking Paris 2024 as India's most successful Paralympics. The Indian Paralympics team truly made history at the Paris 2024 Paralympics. Alongside the regular participation, in 2024 India competed in 3 new sports – > Para-Cycling > Para Rowing > Blind Judo This expands our representation and opens doors for future talents in these categories. This isn't just a win for the winners but a lesson for many. Despite facing immense challenges, our Paralympic heroes never gave up. They showed us that with hard work, passion, and perseverance, we can overcome any obstacle. In a country where athletes don't get enough funding, or support, pursuing an athletic career in itself is a struggle. However, these para-Olympians showed that they have more grit & resilience than complaints. If they can do it, why can’t we rise to the challenge too? I take this as an inspiration for Growit India & my dear Indian farmers. I am aware that the Indian agricultural industry is way behind China & USA, but we can strive for greater achievement. With the same spirit, our farmers can also achieve greatness and make our country proud with a bountiful harvest! Let’s take inspiration from our Paralympians! #paralympics #India #indianteam

India at Paralympics: 1968-2016: 12 medals 2019-2024: 34 medals and counting. India’s performance at the the Paralympics 2024 has been nothing short of phenomenal. Ranked 15th in the overall medals tally we have achieved 3 golds, 5 silver and 7 bronze medals with 5 days remaining in the games. In the last paralympics India had sent 54 athletes who fetched 19 medals, an outstanding conversion ratio of 35% The feat becomes more and more impressive as we dig deeper. Out of the 12 gold medals won across all Paralympic Games, India has won the most not in shooting but in athletics. And this has come at a level of athleticism comparable to the Olympics. Nishad Kumar ‘s high jump at 2.03 m was just .4 m shy of the Olympic world record. And the stories of grit, of overcoming odds, behind each of these athletes, you could carve out a movie like Chandu Champion and you’d have no dearth of real stories. Fun fact: Did you know that there are 12 multiple medallists who have dominated their sport for decades from India. Below is a list of them. So next time you see a person with any disability be kind but don’t pity them, they could well be an Olympian someday 🇮🇳
