Food Producers of Canada (FPC) is pleased to share an important milestone in what has been approximately a three year process to bring all five major Canadian grocers to participate in the voluntary, industry led Grocery Code of Conduct. Today, the FPT Ag Ministers announced that Walmart and Costco have agreed to join the Code at their annual meeting in Whitehorse. Now, with the support of all five major Canadian retailers, the collaborative efforts of the entire industry will ensure that small and medium size Canadian food based businesses can manage the complexities of the Canadian grocery market. As our industry works toward bringing greater fairness, transparency, and contractual certainty to its commercial dealings, we believe that the improved culture within Canada's food value system will ultimately benefit all Canadians. Under the new Deposit Return Scheme, when a customer buys a beverage from a retailer featuring the Re-turn logo, they are obliged to make a modest extra payment alongside the retail price. Retail sales in May were flat... To say the least. The recent data highlights the need for strategic innovation and resilient operations. The British Retail Consortium detailed that the UK’s non-food retail sales decrease was steeper than the 12-month average decline of 1.7% and for the month of May non-food was in decline year on year. This period of economic ambivalence is emblematic of broader uncertainties the country has been experiencing in the run-up to the General Election. The recent election offers a critical juncture for policymakers and businesses alike. UK retailers will be keen to hear positive measures from the Labour government to help boost the sector. Economic strategies may well serve as pivotal catalysts for revitalising the sector. #retail #uk #sales #growth

I was reading about Canada's upcoming new grocery code of conduct. Seems like its the need of the hour - this draft code seeks to address imbalances in the grocery supply chain. The UK has had the Groceries Supply Code of Practice in place from 2009 (though it covers only high turnover retailers, it has promoted fair trading practices in the grocery sector). The code of conduct (implementation set for June 2025) will ensure transparency, set fair commercial terms, and help in resolving disputes. #CanadianBusiness #FoodIndustry #GroceryRegulation
