Engineer turned Founder We find, develop and recruit engineers that fuel the growth of the manufacturing sector. Founder of TNEC (The Northern Engineers Community). Host of The Engineering Futures Podcast.
The new episode of The Engineering Futures Podcast is out now! This episode features all round top guy Chris Platt from City & Guilds. Chris and I used to work together and had some interesting, and challenging, times trying to manage an engineering department at a local college. We discuss why more employers should consider degree apprenticeships, the challenges colleges face trying to recruit engineers, and why more young people should be given a chance to kick stat their careers as budding engineers. Links to the show are in the comments.
The biggest challenge to the sector is the shortage of tutors. Just because you're a qualified engineer it doesn't make you a great tutor. It's not a role for the end of your career. We need younger passionate tutors who really want to inspire and educate the next generation of engineers. But this requires better pay & funding or investment from industry.
