One of my least favorite things in Nursing is a recently hired employee or agency person being perpetually "new". The fact that you are not familiar with a person is not an excuse to not perform the basic functions of your job. It is certainly not a reason to just act as though you have never taken care of a person in your life, and never a reason to be lazy. As agency nurses we have all the knowledge with a bit less familiarity, which means we need to listen more, and be more open to learn quickly. There are people that choose to work with agencies and job jump so they can pick and choose what they will do and not do often with the tired threat of "I'll go home". Well if a person isn't going to do the job they were brought in to do, they might as well go home, everyone else will have to pick up the slack either way. At least if you go home we won't have to hear your voice and see your face, moral will immediately go up, and the remaining employees have a chance to strengthen their relationships and communications between one another. Ultimately these toxic rentals will become less necessary and hopefully pushed out of the profession.
