Over the past year, Innovation Unit has engaged with 31 domestic and family violence organisations working with a range of specialist cohorts and communities that were awarded grants as part of PRF's Specialist DFV grant round in 2023. This national network was formed as part of an effort to strengthen violence prevention in Australia, by connecting DFV practitioners working on shared challenges, and supporting them to collectively develop insights, ideas and opportunities for change at ‘field’ level. I am thrilled to receive my badge of participation and attendance at the renowned and largest global forum dedicated to advance research on violence against women and children, the SVRI 2024, at Capetown. I was one of the representatives for the United Nations Population Fund. *These are my key highlights and takeaways* 1. Research is only effective if it actionable. As we continue to delve into understanding VAC & VAW, we must ensure that the research can be translated into practice 2. We need to treat victims/ survivors of GBV as experts of the response and prevention of GBVF. They must also constitute as valid and reliable sources of evidence 3. Technology is a rapid growing factor that facilitates violence. We need to strengthen accountability measures for both perpetrators and owners of the platforms 4. We can empower the survivors of GBV in plenty of ways, but if we do not empower them psychologically to regain their inner confidence, they are likely to be return to the toxic environments. As such, It is critical to integrate mental health into all programming of GBV. For CSO staff and victims. I’ll stop here for now. Looking forward to the next SVRI Conference 🍀Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI) #SVRI2024 #UNFPA

Children do not end up involved in crime & delinquency apropos of nothing. Maddeningly often these antisocial behaviours come after a life of instability, trauma & maltreatment, & missed opportunities for intervention. Glad to contribute this PAFRA submission to the Senate Inquiry on Youth Justice & Incarceration. We call for upstream evidence-based support for parents & families (& broader contexts) to prevent & respond to youth offending to replace ineffective punitive measures. https://lnkd.in/g8qJJNAA. Our #ACMS data shows clear associations between maltreatment & arrests, convictions & incarcerations. https://lnkd.in/g_D-JB5n

At Wezesha, we're committed to building trust in public services, which can significantly boost service utilisation and availability. Academic research shows that accountability mechanisms like the feedback loops we implement can reduce under-5 child mortality by up to 38% (Christensen, 2021; Bjorkman, 2009 - https://bit.ly/4fFTAQJ). By empowering decision-makers and involving officials in our programs, Wezesha strengthens accountability. Research suggests that initiatives involving government officials are more effective than relying on social accountability alone (Kosack, 2021 - https://bit.ly/4hGGV1Z). Together, we're creating stronger, more reliable public services to benefit everyone. 🌍 #PublicTrust #Accountability #WezeshaImpact Learn more about our work by clicking the link below:

🔍 New Blog Post on Elevating Medical Standards in Domestic Violence Response with VIPROM It is my honour to serve on the Advisory Board for the VIPROM (viprom-cerv.eu) project, and I’m pleased to share my recent blog post discussing the project's vital role in enhancing the response to gender-based violence across Europe. 📝 Read the full post here: https://lnkd.in/dV3P4cA3 VIPROM stands out as a high-quality initiative, filling a crucial gap in the fight against domestic violence. Expertly coordinated by Prof. Dr. Bettina Pfleiderer and backed by a long-standing consortium of medical experts and researchers, this project offers a multi-language interactive training platform for medical professionals, drawing on decades of experience. The European Women’s Lobby (EWL), the largest network of women's rights NGOs in Europe, has long advocated for comprehensive EU-wide legislation to prevent and combat violence against women and domestic violence, a persistent global challenge. With the recent passage of EU-wide legislation against VAW, the time is ripe to standardize and enhance the services supporting victims. I believe VIPROM sets a new standard and could inspire further collaborations to address domestic violence. It is definitely worth exploring for medical professionals and students, their trainers, and anyone interested in advancing a more gender-equal and safer Europe. #DomesticViolence #GenderEquality #VIPROMProject #VAW #MedicalTraining #EWL #EU #EIGE #SocialImpact #Collaboration
