We've broken ground at Ripple Residence! So exciting to begin the building process today supported by Minister of Housing, Pernille Rosenkrantz-Theil, and Lord Mayor of Copenhagen, Sophie Hæstorp Andersen. This project is truly ambitious in establishing new processes in real estate. The apartment building which totals – 13,000 m2 and 115 apartments – will be the first of its kind, with less than 5 kg/m2/year in carbon emissions. We spent 9 months preparing the design work for this, even before making the first draft and selecting a suitable site. Together with Boston Consulting Group (BCG), Ramboll, and Søren Jensen we dove into 150+ carbon reduction levers, a review of 100+, and 20+ external interviews within the construction ecosystem. Our site in the North Harbor of Copenhagen had all the complexity we needed... a tight zoning plan, high density, restricted design guidelines, and an existing infrastructure. If we can make it here – we can make it anywhere. Some learnings so far: 1. Architects can no longer start working with form, we need to understand the new details, building components and material sourcing. This will transform how we educate future architects. 2. Contractors are key – we need true openness and "yes we can" attitude. 3. Partnerships are the right way to go in maturing the ecosystem of the building industry. The 2024 rankings of the largest architecture firms in the world showcase significant shifts and enduring consistencies. Gensler remains at the top with over $1.5 billion in fee income and 3,065 architects. Arcadis makes a notable "debut" at #2, marking a leap for the Netherlands-based firm, with 1,956 architects and fee income of $370 million to $379 million. HDR, now ranked #3, reports a fee income of $700 million to $799 million, maintaining its global influence. Sweco climbs to #4 as the sole European firm in the top five, with 1,504 architects and a focus on sustainable urban design. Nikken Sekkei Ltd, now at #5, continues to lead in urban planning and architectural services. South Korea's Heerim Architects & Planners Co., Ltd. rises to #6, reflecting the country's growing global presence. Emerging markets see steady growth. India's DSP Design Associates (#47) leads with a fee income of $30 million to $39 million, while Morphogenesis (#63) and Sanjay Puri Architects (#91) highlight the country’s innovative approaches. The Philippines strengthens its position with Aidea at #39 and ASYA DESIGN at #79. British firms continue their strong presence, led by Foster + Partners (#20), Zaha Hadid Architects (#28), BDP (Building Design Partnership Ltd) (#23), Chapman Taylor (#46) and Purcell (#67). Notable European players include austrian ATP architects engineers (#13), LINK Arkitektur (#33) from Norway, and Spain’s Morph Estudio (#77) and IDOM Consulting, Engineering, Architecture(#43). France’s Wilmotte & Associés Architectes (#52) and Switzerland’s Itten+Brechbühl AG (#53) further reflect Europe’s design excellence. The absence of firms like MVRDV and BIG - Bjarke Ingels Group signals shifting dynamics as newer firms rise. Meanwhile, mid-tier firms like Lemay (#30) and gmp von Gerkan, Marg and Partners Architects (#16) demonstrate strong growth, underscoring the industry’s evolving landscape. I’m developing my first offer, and I want it to be a service that truly makes a difference. I have this urge to make a difference with what I do. I want it to matter. This is what drives me every day. I know it might be something a lot of people talk about for PR reasons. But maybe you know what I mean, this motivation that keeps you going. I only have that when I truly believe what I do really matters. And I know way too many architects who are slugging away, having their vision of the wonderful buildings they might design crushed by the reality of the practice. Often those who were really good students and made incredible designs during university. Often those with really high potential and a lot of value to provide. I can help with that. Help them position themselves in a way they become the obvious choice for their dream clients. So someone who has a burning passion for architecture stops taking on bad projects to keep the lights on. So someone with strong values and beliefs in sustainability can actually implement their beliefs into their designs. So someone who is passionate about rethinking how we want to live together never has to work on a new single-family home again. When I help architects secure and work on projects they are proud of saying ‘I did that!’, then I really do something that matters. Because I know a lot of architects have this urge to make a difference with what they do. They want it to matter. This is what drives them every day.

According to Architecturalrecord.com, numbers show, "The value of newly signed design contracts dipped slightly in April, although inquiries into new projects continue to increase, suggesting ongoing client interest." This may be the best time for property owners and developers to plan modifications to their properties. They will be ahead of the rush when the market improves.
