Today we officially launched an international pattern book design competition allowing architects and architecture students from around the world to design the future face of Sydney and NSW while speeding up the delivery of new homes. Housing remains the single biggest cost of living pressure for people across NSW and this competition will mean the winning designs used by developers will have access to an accelerated approval pathway. The accelerated pathway will allow builders to have homes approved and built faster, providing homes to those who need them sooner. Our planning reforms to low and mid rise housing are fundamental to the Pattern Book competition and will provide diversity of housing for our diverse community. https://ow.ly/Otbo50SrpkQ
So are these pattern book designs going to be assessed and approved as part of the CDC pathway or? The reason I ask is that even if there are templates it doesn’t mean that they are assessed faster or easier - there’s so much context at a micro level in development assessment.
This is absolutely necessary to increase efficiencies and streamline Planning…..just hope the winning team/s consult the OSM industry and experts!
Looking forward to it
I’m not sure this is right.
I wonder what entry might’ve come from Christopher Alexander?
Exciting times!

4moA pattern book certainly has merit, it's worked perfectly well in the past, but we don't need a) a competition, or b) advice from overseas.
