Happy May 1st! For me, May isn't just about blooming flowers and warmer weather. It's my birthday month, Mother's Day, a whirlwind of graduation celebrations, and prom excitement.
Yet, as a leader, I feel the familiar end-of-fiscal-quarter pressure too. The mix of celebration and stress...it can be a lot to juggle. It's easy to feel pulled between the demands of work and the pull of personal milestones.
Any other human out there feeling this balance (or lack thereof)? How do you navigate the joy and the pressure of these big moments? I'd love to hear your thoughts and tips.

Today, in a panel, one woman spoke about now having balance because that tends to mean something has to suffer to create equilibrium. But rather to have harmony in your life both work and personal. Taking the time and not feeling guilt for creating space for all aspects of your life.
Making decisions, even small ones, that stay true to your values, will all add up to give you the life you want to create. Prioritizing family first is always the goal. You make balancing life look easy Paula!
Reflecting on Responsibility and Growth as I Approached 50 🌟
When my 50th birthday was on the horizon, I reflected deeply on the concept of personal responsibility. Throughout my life, from navigating familial challenges to making daily decisions, I learned that everything comes down to choice. My key commitments to myself became:
Self-Respect
Self-Love
Pursuing Personal Happiness
These are not just ideals but practical necessities that guided my professional and personal growth.
As professionals, how do we ensure that we prioritize these aspects within our careers and life decisions? Let’s discuss strategies for maintaining our core values amidst life’s complexities. Follow us on Facebook and YouTube to join in the conversation - @daughtersofshebafoundation

The quote states, "20 years from now, the only people who will remember you worked late are your kids." Sahil Bloom
As a father and a business leader, this quote really hit home for me. It's a reminder that while we often strive for success through hard work and long hours, the true measure of our productivity lies in how we balance our time.
For me, it’s about being present for the moments that matter most — with family, with loved ones. Success in the workplace is important, but not at the cost of missing out on the irreplaceable memories that will last a lifetime.
Let’s redefine what it means to be productive. Work smart, not just hard. Time is fleeting, but the relationships we nurture and the experiences we create are the legacy we leave behind.

"There is nothing better than work. Work is also play; children know that. Children play earnestly as if it were work. But people grow up, and they work with a sorrow upon them. It's duty."
“I simply do not distinguish between work and play.”
-Mary Oliver.
Poet Mary Oliver captures the essence of a mindfully crafted and integrated life. When we mindfully approach all endeavors –including work–with the same enthusiasm, curiosity, and sense of exploration, the lines between work and play are not only blurred, but the delineation between the two is obscured.
Traditionally, work and play have been regarded as two separate entities, two things in which there is a continuous search for “balance”, as if there is only one or the other that can be done in any given moment.
Perhaps at first, the idea of merging of work and play seems improbable, impractical or unprofessional. How can it be suggested to find joy in mundane tasks, or approach our professional responsibilities with the same sense of playfulness that we reserve for leisure activities?
It is precisely at this juncture that an unexpected philosophical concept emerges — the concept of flow. Flow, as described by psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, is a state of complete absorption and deep enjoyment in an activity. It is characterized by a sense of timelessness, effortless focus, and a feeling of utmost fulfillment.
When we enter a state of flow, the boundaries between work and play dissolve, and we become fully engaged in the task at hand, experiencing a deep sense of satisfaction regardless of the nature of the activity. In this context, work can be play as much as the child who plays as if it were work.
Kim Serafini, CEO Positive Prime, further explains the state of flow as when one is in an emotionally primed position to take advantage of the opportunities of every moment while being in presence and making more accurate decisions, faster. In this state of flow, we are more creative, more optimistic and more solutions-oriented.
We are primed for more productive, enjoyable, creative, novel and optimal performance. Suddenly, even the most mundane tasks or wild goals can become sources of inspiration and joy. Professional commitments would no longer be seen as burdensome chores but as opportunities for growth, self-expression, and exploration.
Choosing to blur the distinction between work and play, we can create the conditions for flow to emerge. When responsibilities are approached with a playful mindset, we unlock our creative potential and tap into a limitless reservoir of enthusiasm, curiosity and innovation.

"If I were to live my life over again, I wouldn't live it in this way.
I would do it differently."
Drawing from the lessons of Winnie the Pooh and Christopher Robin, we're reminded of what's often sacrificed in the rush of professional life: playfulness and joy.
In our careers, the pursuit of success often disregards the simple joys that keep us connected and creative. But should it? Don't sacrifice your playful spirit for acceptance or success. Let's find ways to keep our inner child alive, even as adults.

🌟 Love, Leadership, Time, and Parenthood: A Journey of Growth 🌟
So, last Sunday marked a significant milestone as my daughter turned the big 2-1. It got us thinking about our journey together—a blend of love, the passage of time, and unexpected leadership lessons.
As a single parent in her early years, our bond deepened through every challenge and triumph. Looking back, every moment was an opportunity for growth, shaping both of us into resilient individuals today.
Through the ups, downs, and sideways moments of parenthood, my daughter has been my greatest teacher, showing me the true meaning of leadership through lessons of resilience, compassion, and the importance of leading by example.
Love, I've come to realise, is not just a sentiment but a powerful force that fosters trust, collaboration, and a shared sense of purpose. Through love we create a supportive environment where individuals feel valued, empowered, and motivated to reach their full potential. ❤️
Time is a precious commodity, teaching us the value of each moment. As leaders, embracing the fleeting nature of time reminds us to prioritise what truly matters, both in our personal and professional lives. It underscores the importance of seizing opportunities, nurturing relationships, and leading with intentionality. ⏳
From navigating tough decisions to celebrating achievements, our bond has deepened with each shared experience, laying the foundation for a lifetime of mutual respect and understanding.
❔ What are some ways you've seen the role of love manifest in leadership? How do you believe it impacts team dynamics, overall organisational success, and our appreciation for the preciousness of time?
Here's to cherishing every moment, embracing growth, and leading with love as we navigate the complexities of life together! ✨ #Leadership#Parenthood#Reflection#Gratitude#Love#Leaders#Time
Nurturing Growth: How Motherhood Shaped My Leadership Vision
In the tapestry of my life, motherhood has been the most vibrant thread, intertwined with the fabric of my leadership style. It has taught me the true essence of resilience, empathy, and the delicate balance between strength and flexibility.
Integrating Motherhood and Leadership:
1. Empathy in Action: Just as motherhood requires understanding and compassion, I’ve infused my leadership with empathy, fostering a work environment where every team member feels seen and valued.
2. Resilience Reimagined:The challenges of parenting have honed my ability to navigate through uncertainty with grace, a skill that translates seamlessly into leading teams through ambiguity and changes.
3. Patience as a Virtue: With Motherhood I discovered next level patience, teaching me the value of giving processes and people the time they need to flourish.
Motherhood has not only enriched my personal life but has also amplified my professional capabilities. This dual role has enhanced my ability to mentor, inspire, and drive success within my team.

In the journey of motherhood, I've discovered a universal truth: the most precious gift we can offer is not material, but the essence of who we are – our time, presence, and the adventures we share.
This wisdom translates seamlessly into the realm of leadership. Our teams don't just need directives and strategies; they seek our authentic selves, our genuine engagement, and our unwavering support.
This week, I'm committing to these simple, yet impactful actions to ensure my team receives the best of me:
✅ Holding space for active listening sessions – every voice matters.
✅ Being a beacon of availability – my door is always open (literally or virtually).
✅ Practicing empathy – everyone's perspective is valuable and acknowledged.
✅ Celebrating our collective and individual wins – no success is too small.
Leaders and fellow professionals, I'm curious: What are you doing this week to ensure your team receives the very best of you? Share your thoughts and strategies below!
Let's make leadership not just a role we play but a journey we share with those around us.

Desire to make a BIG DIFFERENCE?
Mother Teresa's quote, "Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love," offers a beautiful & a very unique perspective.
In our daily lives, the biggest impact often comes from the very small gestures. A kind word to a colleague, holding the door for a stranger, or offering a helping hand – these acts, done with genuine care, can spread in unexpected and in different ways.
Let's embrace the power of small things and see how they can make our world, and our days, a little brighter. Let's try to shift our focus a bit.

Helping people become better leaders and run their companies in a way that makes everyone work well together 🌟 because NO ONE should be held back by obstacles they can overcome
Look at those kids … what did they know?
Today marks 31 years as Mrs. Yancey Valdez 🎉
It’s been a wild ride of ups and downs, twists and turns; sometimes at break-neck speeds; sometimes with little warning of what was coming next.
But we held hands and jumped on together (literally, it all began because we held hands watching fireworks), affirming our commitment when there were opportunities to get out. 👩❤️👨
Who we are today looks similar to who we were then … and also different. The thing is this: the transformation has happened over time. We didn’t get married and then wake up the next day with the mindset we have today.
That’s the thing about #transformation: it takes time. The key is to keep the process moving. And every once in a while, stop and look back at where you started from. That exercise is a good reminder of how far you’ve come.

🌅 Celebrate the Unseen Wins: The Power of Consistent Effort
In today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy to feel disheartened when our hard work goes unnoticed. But as John Lennon beautifully said, “When you do something beautiful and nobody noticed, do not be sad. For the sun every morning is a beautiful spectacle and yet most of the audience still sleeps.”
This quote reminds us that our efforts and contributions are valuable, even if they aren’t always immediately recognized. Just like the sun rises every day, consistently showing up and putting in the work is what truly matters. The impact may not be visible right away, but over time, those consistent efforts will create lasting change.
Whether you’re leading a project, mentoring a team, or simply pushing through your daily tasks, remember that your dedication is creating ripples. Keep shining, even if it seems no one is watching—because the right people will eventually notice.
What’s a recent “sunrise” moment in your work that you’re proud of, even if it went unnoticed? Let’s celebrate those small wins together!
