Before you ever begin to write your book, you need to understand a couple of critical things or your book will fail before you ever get it finished. Number one is who is your intended audience? Are you ready to adults? Young Adults. New adults, Children, preschoolers, babies? Who is your audience #2 what do you want them to get from your book? You're writing on fiction. It's really easy for you to come up with that answer because you can say I want them to understand a concept. I want them to learn a new skill. I want them to have new ideas. I want them to learn more about me. I want them to. Deal and powered There are things that you can come up with that will help you focus on the intention of writing that book. If you think about the book you're writing, you're asking people to exchange their time and attention in order to read your book. So is your book going to be worth the cost of their time and attention? The other thing about knowing who your audience is informs how you write to them. Are you using technical jargon? Are you using layman's terms? Are you conversational? Are you academic? These kind of things are important to know before you ever begin writing your book. So make sure you keep that in mind if you're writing for a very specific age group, so the younger set, for example, there are specific word counts and page counts in children's books that you need to be aware of. I don't work with authors of children's books, not my area of expertise, but I can tell you that I used to work with children's book publishing and it is appalling how many people did not understand the rules around children's books. But this applies to every kind of book. If you are writing for YA, you're not writing explicit. Content. If you're writing for adults, that's a whole different thing. And be aware of what is expected by that audience in that age group from a book that they purchase or borrow in order to spend their time and attention on reading it, and you'll have more luck selling your book once it's done. Why small time windows are your friend... They force you to get something done in the limited time you have. A good way of writing a book is to think of it as a series of chunks which you work on little and often. Regularly squeezing in short writing sessions around your other commitments can pay dividends in the long run.
