Whilst we all know software companies like Expedia, Spotify and Ebay that have driven growth through product led businesses with their Agile "pods and squads", this model is essential to future innovation and growth across all sectors. My colleague, Alex Moseman and I, draw on examples as varied as Gore and Zillow (Real Estate) to provide a framework for innovation and growth. Enjoy! #productbasedcompany #organisationaldevelopment #innovation #growth

In the world of business, there are a lot of metrics to keep track of. But there's one that stands out: the "North Star Metric" ! It's the single most important metric for your business, the one that truly reflects the value you deliver to customers. Why is it so important? 1. Clear direction: It helps everyone in the company focus on what really matters. 2. Easy decisions: You can make choices that move you closer to your goal, no questions asked. 3. Growth that lasts: Your North Star Metric is connected to happy customers and a successful product, which means long-term growth. Examples of North Star Metrics: Spotify: Time people spend listening Airbnb: Nights booked Facebook: Active users each day What's YOUR North Star? There's no magic formula. Your North Star Metric should be unique to your business and the value you offer. Ask yourself: "What's the one metric that best shows we're succeeding?" #NorthStarMetric #BusinessMetrics #ProductSuccess #CustomerSatisfaction #GrowthStrategy #BusinessGoals #StartupLife #ProductDevelopment #BusinessTips #GrowthHacking #ProductManagement

Ideas spark #innovation, but #execution transforms #vision into reality. Take the #Amazon Fire Phone, a promising idea that failed due to poor execution and market strategy. On the other hand, #Airbnb started as a simple concept of renting out air mattresses but became a global success through meticulous execution and #strategic #growth. Without effective execution, even the best ideas, like the Fire Phone, can fail, while well-executed ideas, like Airbnb, can change the world. We could have the best ideas, but execution is crucial to make them flourish.

🚀 Scaling a product from 100 to 10,000 users! Researching hundreds of products, reading books on scaling and listening to the industry experts, I found scaling is more than just driving user growth—it's about building the systems that can support that growth without sacrificing quality. The key is to focus on flexibility and performance from the start. Products that scale effectively, like Spotify and Netflix, don’t just add users—they create resilient architectures and automate processes to handle the increased load smoothly. At the same time, staying laser-focused on retention and user engagement is critical. It’s not just about getting more signups but ensuring those users find value and stick around. Growth isn’t about speed alone—it’s about scaling sustainably. #growthstrategy #gotomarket

At #ProductCon, there were many insightful speakers, but one that stood out for me was Ajay Arora, SVP of Product & Engineering at Disney, who gave a talk on "Subscription Mastery for Product Managers." He shared a question he often asks his team: "If you had to knock on your customer's door for a renewal, what would they say?" This really gets to the core of subscriptions—they’re about more than auto-renewals. It’s about delivering value that keeps people engaged and excited. 💡 Here’s what Ajay emphasized: 1. Emotion Meets Utility: The best subscriptions blend practical use with an emotional connection. Take Spotify—it doesn’t just stream music; it feels like it knows you, making the service feel personal. 2. The Subscription Trinity: Acquisition, retention, and monetization go hand in hand. AJ highlighted how important retention is, backed by research showing that keeping customers is far more cost-effective than constantly acquiring new ones. 3. Exiting Gracefully: Making it easy for customers to leave builds trust. When people feel trapped, you risk payment chargebacks, customer service overload, poor word of mouth, and reluctance to return. Smooth exits make it more likely they’ll come back. 📌 Key takeaway: Subscription success is about creating long-term value and genuine relationships. Consistently respecting and delighting your customers pays off. Great event organized by Product School! 👏 #ProductManagement #SubscriptionServices #CustomerRetention
