Thank you Datuk Ravindran K., the President of UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd (UMWT) for your time recently at the Working Lunch with Nordin looking at “ESG: The Convergence of Multi-Pathway Mobility and Greener Communities” The event was held in the beautiful Eastern & Oriental Hotel, George Town, Pulau Pinang. On the agenda was how a multi-pathway approach can improve the carbon equation and how it aligns with the Accelerating Penang 2030. How Toyota’s technologies can have a positive impact on the sustainability and design elements of Pulau Pinang, which aims to reduce environmental impact in urban and industrial mobility. Penang’s three-pronged approach towards Accelerating Penang2030 through Placemaking, Community-Building and Industry Engagement Initiatives all represent opportunities for strategic collaboration. Critical Questions: 1. What is a multi-pathway approach? How does this uniquely impact Pulau Pinang and the region? 2. Why should Malaysia use a multi-pathway approach to achieve net zero? 3. The Kijang The Kijang, an icon of Indonesian roads, was born in 1977 out of President Soeharto’s ambitious push to build a local automobile industry. Soeharto was on a mission to boost domestic industry. First, he banned the import of complete cars (CBU), especially sedans. Then, he offered incentives to develop a local commercial vehicle industry. In the early 1970s, Soeharto launched the “Multipurpose Commercial Motor Vehicle” (KNBS) Program. the goal was to locally produce commercial vehicle that’s affordable and accessible. William Soeryadjaya, the mastermind behind Astra (PT Astra International Tbk), was eager to create this iconic automobile. The origins of the name “Kijang” are a bit of a mystery, but some historians say that William Soeryadjaya’s brother, Tjia Kian Tie, first floated the name as an option for this groundbreaking vehicle. Meanwhile, Jusuf Kalla, a key player in the auto import scene at the time, was on the team deciding the name. He pushed hard for “Kijang,” a name that would soon become synonymous with Indonesia’s automotive legacy. On a side note, historians have debunked the popular myth that "Kijang" comes from the acronym "Kerjasama Indonesia-Jepang." Instead, they clarified that the name was inspired by the deer, reflecting the vehicle’s qualities of agility and grace. #indonesia #jakarta #cars #history #bisnis

What is the Manufacturing Competition? Monocon or Manufacturing Contest is a contest where manufacturing employees compete for "idea power" and "technical skills". In this year's contest, 14 teams from Japan participated in the "Tug of war" contest and16 teams from Japan and abroad participated in the "Good of Idea" contest, namely Making Goods from Manufacturing Waste. PT EBARA Indonesia has 2 representatives in this Manufacturing Competition: Team Alejandro and Team Creative. This year's Manufacturing Competition challenge focuses on the utilization of manufacturing waste.
