There's a young Fijian bloke here who I've been chatting with today. He was working in a meat works as part of the PALM scheme, and got sacked for drinking. He's away from home, has a very respected family back home in Fiji, but got a little too relaxed with booze here in Australia (he's not the only one ... they look at it as a bit like kava, but it's not. It's more dangerous). However, he's been offered an apprenticeship as a butcher, which is a great opportunity for him. However, because he's bonded to the labour hire company who brought him here, he can't take up this opportunity. That's part of the big problem with the inflexibility of the PALM scheme and the indentured servitude (slavery features) of the scheme. Humanity spent hundreds of years freeing ourselves from slavery and now Australian politicians are restoring it. I get the arguments about visa conditions, etc. When I first moved to London, I had to keep working for PwC until I earned my permanent residency. But I was with one of the largest consulting firms in the world. And these PALM positions with meat works are dead end positions that are being used to block opportunities for career development and progression ... not just for Pacific Islanders, but for Australians as well ... because Pacific Islanders are brought over for a very specific role and don't get apprenticeship opportunities that would enable them to experience a range of roles in an organisation and to participate in the Australian jobs market for relevant roles (better positions) within their industry.

My summer job was the best. Patrolling the land and waters of the National Capital Commission - Commission de la capitale nationale. By foot, bike, truck or boat, whether in the summer or the winter, it was my duty to ensure our region's natural parks were respected and conserved, and that everyone could enjoy them safely. While I didn't hold any real authority, every day presented a new opportunity to develop my skills. → 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘀-𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 On my first day of work, I noticed a man crouched over from his car, when I went to check on him, he was showing signs of having a heart attack. Remembering my first-aid training, I asked him to get in safe position, while immediately calling for an ambulance. He was saved. → 𝗗𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗰𝘆 International conflict arose in the BBQ area, where two large families, of two distinct cultures complained about each other. I brought together the two leaders of the groups and came to a compromise where one would turn down their music a tad, and the other would share one of the tables they were holding up. A global dispute was avoided and many smiles were found. → 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 Being a parking-lot attendant can be boring, especially on a rainy day. As the team's supervisor, I'd drive from one location to another to relieve my colleague of their duties for a few minutes while they competed on a brain-teaser game, to see how they measured against their colleagues. When we got together, it was always a source of fun. It was also during those slow days that I learn to connect with each of them, allowing us to be more efficient as a team, as they were enabled to operate with more autonomy on sunny [and busy] days. There are so many stories that come to mind when I think back on these experiences, and they've all helped shape the skills I use today. 💬 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽 𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗷𝗼𝗯𝘀? 𝗟𝗲𝘁 𝗺𝗲 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀! ↓ #TheHumaneRecruiter #SummerJob #CrisisManagement #FirstAid #Diplomacy #Leadership #Teamwork

Top 5 Fun Facts About Norway! If you've ever wondered what makes Norway so unique (and sometimes quirky!), here are five funny facts that will make you smile. Whether you're planning a trip or just love learning about different cultures, Norway has a few surprises up its sleeve! 1️⃣ Norwegians Love Frozen Pizza! Believe it or not, the most popular dish isn't traditional seafood or meat dishes—it’s Grandiosa, a frozen pizza that holds a special place in Norwegian hearts. It's basically a national treasure. 🍕 2️⃣ Slow TV is a Big Deal Why binge-watch dramas when you can watch a live broadcast of a train journey or wood being chopped...for hours! Norwegians invented "Slow TV," and it's oddly relaxing. 🚂🪵 3️⃣ No Sun in Winter? No Problem! In some parts of Norway, the sun doesn’t rise for months during the winter, yet people stay surprisingly upbeat. It’s all about "koselig" (the art of coziness) and enjoying candle-lit evenings and hot drinks. ☕🕯️ 4️⃣ The King Can’t Be an Atheist By law, the Norwegian King is required to be Lutheran. It’s one of those old traditions that still stands even though Norway is one of the most secular countries in the world. 👑🙏 5️⃣ Russ Partying Season Before graduating, Norwegian high school seniors go wild with a month-long celebration called "Russ," where they wear brightly colored overalls and partake in crazy challenges. Think of it as a quirky rite of passage! 🎉👩🎓 Which one surprised you the most? 😄 #Norway #FunFacts #Culture #Travel #NordicLife #Norwegian #PhilologyStudent #OptiVisionary #AlconInternship #Alcon

Today marks 10 years since I took the brave step of moving from Greece to London, fueled by nothing but dreams, ambition and a deep desire to grow. It was 14 September 2014, just me and three suitcases, boarding a one-way flight from Thessaloniki to London, ready to embrace the unknown. 10 years ago, I had no guarantees, no clear roadmap at all. Just a heart full of hopes which was more than enough to allow me embark on a journey that would shape my personal and professional life. From studying for my Master’s degree in Media & Communication here in London to becoming a communications and marketing professional in this vibrant and amazing city, the road has been filled with lessons, growth and incredible experiences. Today, as I reflect on this journey, I’m reminded that you don’t need to have it all figured out to get started, reset and start from scratch again. Sometimes, all you need is the courage to take that first step into the unknown. It’s the dreams you carry and the willingness to pursue them relentlessly that will shape the path ahead. An enormous thank you (though words will never be enough) to all these incredible people in my life who stood by me and weathered my ups and downs during these past 10 years. I love you endlessly, and you know that without your support, I wouldn’t be where I am today, so I'm eternally grateful. To anyone out there feeling uncertain or stuck right now: Keep moving forward and take chances. Don’t let yourself look back years from now, asking, ‘What if?’. Often, all it takes is a spark and a clear vision of what you want. The rest will fall into place. And always be grateful for the hurdles you have faced in your life. After all, a smooth sea never made a skilled sailor. Here’s to the next 10 years of growth, discovery and never losing sight of the dream that started it all. #10YearsInLondon #Anniversary #ChasingDreams #LifeJourney #TrustTheProcess #TrustYourSelf #TrustTheUniverse #SettingGoals #CommsCareer #Grateful
