What difference can you make on walks this weekend? Join 26,000 dog owners picking up a couple of pieces of litter on walks to protect animals, communities and our precious environment. It only takes a minute but makes a huge impact - 38 million pieces of litter every year, a few pieces at a time. The truly amazing thing is how great it feels to do something so simple that has an immediate and very visible difference. On #mentalhealthawareness week, why not give it a try and see.... #dogowners #walkingthedog #environmentalcharity #volunteering

As more people are exploring our website and making profiles to start volunteering in the community, we'd like to continue the Intro to Volunteer Peterborough 105. We have a lot of volunteer opportunities on the site, and we know that very few of you have the time to browse through every single one to assess if it's something you can or want to do. That's why we have these wonderful filters. If you have an account, the filters automatically recommend the best possible matches for you, although you are free to check out what else is available. "Skills Requested" is self explanatory. You can scroll through the list and tick every sill you bring to the table. Cleaning, Animal Care, and Handling Money, for example. These preferred skills may match you up with a one-shot "Clean Jackson Creek" or a weekly "help look after the Squirrels at Squirrel Haven Rescue." And there's no rules stating you can't sign up for both! "Causes Benefitted" further narrows the options. If your passion is the environment, it will pull out all the agencies that are endeavouring to save the planet. Combining the Causes and Skills will get very specific results! Again, it's our goal to make selecting opportunities as quick and painless as setting up a playlist. By stating your preferences up front, we make recommendations that match those preferences. Because your time is valuable. We want you to make the most of it. Peruse what's available today! https://buff.ly/3rsamzk Remember: It's ALWAYS FREE for Volunteers! #VolunteerRecruitment #VolunteerHours #CommunityBuilding #Tutorial

“No Mow May has now become Can’t be Arsed August” How 𝗻𝗼𝘁 to create change. 😳 This is a story about a community coming together to take action on the environment. But not in the way you might expect. They've clubbed together to 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲 the council's rewilding scheme. 😮 Essential reading for anyone seeking to understand: • why community engagement is so important • the dangers of top-down action • how local change happens Take a read: https://lnkd.in/eD-Chjmk 📰 ++ P.S. NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK VOLUNTEER SHOUTOUT: There are so many wonderful volunteers who dedicate their time to our lifesaving mission, and today we wanted to take a moment to thank longtime Lucky Dog Foster Katie Noble. In her own words, “I was first introduced to Lucky Dog in the summer of 2012 when I began searching for my first dog. I ended up adopting Kaylee, a pit mix, that September. After she settled in, I fostered a few Lucky Dogs on occasion, but really got into the foster mom life in 2017. Since then, I have fostered 250+ puppies, dogs, and kittens, and adopted another Lucky Dog in 2023. My volunteer work with Lucky Dog has become a significant part of my identity. The job is more than just cuddles and kisses: it's the satisfaction of seeing each animal find their humans. It's knowing that, by taking in a litter of puppies, I'm making room for another litter to take their place in the shelter. It's getting to know all these animals as individuals. Everyone wants to find a "purpose" in life, something that defines them - rescue is mine, and some of my greatest personal achievements have been made possible due to Lucky Dog. To anyone considering volunteer work with Lucky Dog, I say this: even the smallest contribution is invaluable to these animals. They always need a driver to get them to adoption events or vet appointments. They always need a human to hold their leash while they meet potential families. Documents need to be printed and travel crates need to be cleaned. Donations don't have to be extravagant - the #1 item I use on a daily basis is paper towels! The process of pulling an animal from the shelter and finding them the perfect home requires so many people doing so many different types of jobs, and all of them are absolutely necessary. Whatever your "best" is: it's more than enough to make a difference.” #IAmLuckyDog #WhyIVolunteer #NationalVolunteerWeek #Gratitude #TuesdayThoughts

𝗧𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆’𝘀 𝗧𝘂𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗧𝗶𝗽 - 𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝗔𝗱𝗼𝗽𝘁 𝗮 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗲𝘁 𝗗𝗮𝘆, and we want to shout it from the rooftops, so please share this post with others!📣🐾 This day is all about raising awareness for the incredible animals waiting in shelters for their forever families. By adopting instead of shopping for a pet, you're not just giving a deserving furry friend a second chance - you're literally saving a life. The reality is that in 2023, according to Shelter Animals Count (https://bit.ly/3wdLrCe), approximately 6.5 𝑚𝑖𝑙𝑙𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑎𝑛𝑖𝑚𝑎𝑙𝑠 𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑒𝑑 𝑠ℎ𝑒𝑙𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑠, and only around half get adopted. The others? Well, we don't like to think about it. 💔 But YOU can change those heartbreaking odds! Adopting from your local shelter, humane society, or rescue group is one of the most impactful things you can do to combat pet overpopulation and homelessness. We've written & hosted some amazing articles & webinar about saving lives, overpopulation and kitten basics - check out the links below! Our true purpose in life? Giving back to nature! We are natural born consumers and we need a lot of care and attention. Therefore if we can do it, giving back is an empowering and eye opening experience. Our personal mission, goal and purpose in life is different from one person to another, we're all here to fulfil a different purpose. But there is a common purpose that is shared between all of us and that is giving back to nature, looking after the environment, animals and one another. In this way we are giving back to nature. This is a common duty and it requires systems and processes in place, but recycling for example is a good example of looking after the environment, giving to animal protection is a good charity and doing jobs that support others is a good way to give back to others. So this adds value to who we are and gives us a mature vision in life. Giving back is our common purpose.
