We need to stop looking at these articles (sorry WSJ) at what is happening at other companies and start looking internally at our own companies. External benchmarking can give you a a general sense of what's happening in the market but it is internal benchmarking is what will give you the edge in increasing YOUR employee engagement and decreasing your employee turnover. Who is leaving your company? Why are they leaving? Where are the rumblings? Which departments are rating lower on engagement and stay surveys? New hires in which positions are having a harder time feeling confident and taking longer to feel like part of the team? What are exiting employees telling you that current employees are afraid to say? Chief Human Resource Officers (CHROs) that focus on these internal issues rather than worrying about everyone else are the ones that make large, measurable improvements.
