I am so happy to announce the student of the week for this week – Gagan. Congratulations Gagan and keep up the great effort!
Here are some key aspects that Gagan has demonstrated, leading him to win this title. I hope this serves as inspiration for other GMAT aspirants to showcase these good habits!
1: Consistency in GMAT Preparation: For the last 2 months, Gagan has been regular in his GMAT preparation, completing both verbal courses and now in the final stretch of his quant preparation – just another 2 days to go.
2: Meeting Metrics: Gagan has met the metrics at every step of his preparation, achieving grades of A- or A in all course attempts and scoring 55% on hard questions before progressing to the next course.
3: Adherence to Sequence: He has done everything in the optimum sequence without deviating even once, showing his dedication and methodical approach.
4: Absorption of Processes: The final metrics show that Gagan has thoroughly absorbed the processes taught in the course. A special mention for his RC time distribution, which is commendable!
Kudos to you, Gagan. Keep up the great effort!

So in this video I'm going to do a quick account walkthrough of the student of the week for this week. And in fact this students account came to my attention through two sources. One, through our regular routine audits that we do in order to make sure that students are learning the right way. And second are the student posted a query in our coffee sessions that we do on a weekly basis. So it was just a very obvious to me after looking at his accounts for two consecutive weeks that he needs to be the student of the week. So let's go through this. So first of all, what you see. So here is a line chart of the activity that the student has been doing on the platform and you can see that his. So let's start here. So I'm going to open, so I'm going to just do critical reasoning course. So he did the critical reasoning course and then he essentially did the cementing which is stage two and let me walk you through what I mean by the quality of the critical reasoning course. So he finished the course, he scored really well but not but not only that I mean these are his absolute scores but as so if you were to compare the quality of. His attempt with the with the attempts made by everybody on on the G Mat platform, you can see given the grades that he has gotten over here, these are all percentile, these are all ranked grades. He essentially was amongst the 85% top 85. So he was he was in the top 15 percentile. So again, really, really good. Now when I look at how well he did in the cementing, which needs to be done right after finishing stage 1 and that's what you see over here, that he finished the course and then he did. Commenting right away over here and these were his results. So he is right now at an L20 which is last 20 hard questions. His accuracy in CR is 70% and I want to show you how diligently he went through the entire cementing process 17th December and let and let's look at the dates here. So this is around 17th December here. I'm sorry. Then he faltered a bit in medium cementing he he came back right up and then he essentially followed it up with the heart cementing quizzes, which again he was faltering. And this is where really commendable. He was working during his Christmas break and and again he was able to pass through flying colors. So the threshold for for passing heart cementing is that you need to have an average score of 55% in hard questions across three different heart cementing quizzes. So he has been able to. Prove that if, which means that he has about 75 percentile ability in CR today. In fact, looking at his 70% score over here, 70% accuracy right now, average accuracy, he's at an 85 percentile, 85 to 9585 to 90 percentile in CR. So, amazing job. Now the rigor and this is something that we have observed. Once a student understands the right way to prepare and once a student has those right habits demonstrates those right habits, those habits continue through. Through all the different sections. So now Critical Reasoning was done. Now look at it. So I'm gonna highlight Reading Comprehension over here at the bottom and you see this light green shade come up again, whatever the color is here. Which means that he did Reading Comprehension right after. And let's look at the quality of his effort. Amazing job as you're going to see all. Yeah, let the page load. So all A grades, so amazing job again, again in the top 15 percentile. Now let's look at his cementing experience. And he did cementing right after, as you can see from this line chart over here, which is for this orange thing over here. Again, this is for our own consumption, which tells us so that we understand the sequence in which people are doing the content. And if they don't do content in the right sequence, then we do those interventions. So again, coming back to Scholar Anium here, medium cementing heap, he breezed right through. But heart cementing. We faced a bit of issues, maybe this this passage was something off for him, but ultimately he was able to pass pass over here. Now I'm going to show you his, his cementing, his RC attempts and something very interesting. And this is another thing that we that we observe over here. I'm going to go into raw data. I'm gonna show you the the way he's he's approaching RC, what we like to see if a student is doing. If the student has truly imbibed the aspects with regards to RC. What we'd like to see is high attempt time for first question because that includes the read of the passage and you need to read the passage in such an in such a detailed and comprehensive manner. And you need to understand that absorb it so well that the subsequent questions which are questions 2-3 and or 4 you should be taking. Few less than one minute to answer those questions correctly and that's what you see over here. The student over here took. So you can see that the reading time is above 4 minutes for both the passages. There were two passages here and I've questioned the subsequent questions that you have to answer. That is questions 2-3 and four. In this case the the time was less than a minute. Same thing over here, reading time was was 5.1 minutes and the subsequent time was again less than one minute here. About a minute here, but then here. This is the only question where he took longer. Cool. So if he were doing this the right way, and I'm pretty sure that he would be, he should have gone back and looked at this question and figure out why is it that this question took longer? He could have also taken a look at the median time. Now, median time to answer this question correctly is 1 1/2 minutes, right? So he is taking longer than the threshold that we have set for for for effective RC reading. But he's also taking longer than the median time, so there's definitely something he maybe he got distracted, Maybe there was. Certain language issue over here in this question and that's something that he should essentially go back and look at. And again this is not detailed question, right. So something that is not mentioned in the past that. So maybe he may have ended ended up maybe losing concentration or just doing a little bit of back and forth. So that would now be the learning that he puts in his error log and then moves forward. So again, so I'm pretty sure that that he had done that. So again this is the kind of introspection that you need to do and this is the kind of information. Sequence in which you should be doing and the quality of work that is absolutely crucial. OK And the quality is evident from meeting these metrics. And the metrics for going through the course is that you need to score A minus or A grades if you are doing the course really well. And then you're cementing, you need to be able to pass the cementing thresholds. OK, Now let's go back over here to this chart and we're going to now see what did he do after finishing up with cementing. So he did quant basics because he was done with verbal. So you can see. With little orange line come about over here, I'm going to change this period to 30 days because we should be able because now we are down to corn. So that way you can see these expanded. Sorry, so. This is. Yeah. So. So we saw that right now next one is, so he does number properties here, right? And then he would do cementing right after that, right. So you see that as well. Then let me add what problems, what problems he did later. So let's, I think he did algebra next. So you can see algebra pops up over here and then there's commenting right after that. OK Then he did what problems pops right up up over here and then cementing right after that. So you can see that he's following the sequence and right now he's doing advanced. Topics that's what you see here and and again because he's still doing the course that's why he hasn't really started with stage two. So I'm going to now go back to scholarly named dashboard and I'm going to show you his stats over here last 20 hard questions and he has passed the threshold the threshold is 55% accuracy which which which which corresponds to 70 percentile. So so that's that's the bare minimum that you need to get at in order to make sure that you have passed that if cemented. The concepts and the process really well. So now let's look at how he fared through through a number of properties. Again he he breezed through it and again you can see the the kind of effort 18th Jan, 19th Jan and then within the next one day he's actually. So within the next two days he's done OK. Now I ideally speaking I would have wanted him to not take so maybe he was doing the cementing module on 18th Jan That's the reason why he could take only one one quiz but. You can see the the consistency of the effort is there. Likewise over here in Word problem, same thing, third Feb, third web. So both medium courses done here and these are 10 question, medium quizzes and then 4th Feb, 4th Feb the next day he essentially persisted through it. He faltered a little bit over here but then he came right back up and overall he has a he inward problems. He has a 55% accuracy in the last 20 questions and that's the same thing that we see in algebra as well. Again very consistent effort. What does the course? He does the maintaining and then yeah, so overall again. By virtue of this student following through the process as as it has been outlined, do stage one, do stage two, then move to stage one of the next scores, and then do stage 2. By virtue of him doing this, what he's doing is he's cementing everything in his head. All his neural connections are solidified. So now when he moves on to the Test Readiness phase, what he'll be focusing on are the things that need to be focused on in the test Readiness phase, which is identifying any and all gaps that are left. Because his ability is already set. And then all figuring out how to switch from one question to another. First in the context of the section itself which is verbal and then quant and then DI and then essentially figuring out taking marks or taking those marks wherein he he'll be able to then go to sustain himself through the through the 45 minute section for for each of the three sections. So again, amazing job, keep it up and I hope this is inspiring enough. For all the students doing to essentially make sure that they are learning this way they they are maintaining the quality of their effort and the rigor in this in this learning journey. So congratulations once again.

Well done, Gagan! This is the power of Diligence and Metrics - An A or A- grade in LL1, LL2, and LL3 in CR places him in the top 15-percentile at the foundation stage. Follow that by a 70% hard accuracy in Cementing, places him at ~90th percentile in CR. The most import thing - he achieve this in ~2 weeks. e-GMATers - this is how you execute on your plan, hit your metrics, and come back from setbacks (cementing) stronger and mightier!
Gagan, your time management skills are exemplary! Dedicating over 4 minutes to thoroughly understand RC passages and then answering subsequent questions in less than a minute each shows a high level of comprehension and efficiency. This strategic approach not only placed you in the top percentile but also serves as a model for effective study habits. Truly, a masterclass in time management and efficiency for GMAT aspirants! 🥇
Kudos, Gagan! Your strategic approach to GMAT prep, especially your meticulous adherence to the learning sequence and immediate application in the Cementing stages showcases the effectiveness of disciplined execution. One of my students improved from GMAT 560 to 720 (41%ile to 94%ile). I asked him, "So, how was this journey?"
"Sir, everybody unnecessarily makes scoring 700+ on GMAT such a big deal; it happened so smoothly."
The above comment becomes very interesting and also puzzling if we take into account that this guy's GMAT journey lasted 18 months, even after taking sessions with me.
How can a guy who took 18 months even while taking private sessions call his journey "smooth"?
The simple and real reason: he never became impatient. After a couple of sessions with me, he realized the futility of chasing/worrying about the score. He became completely focused on 'deserving' the score - on building clarity of thought.
Since he focused his energies entirely on the process and never became impatient, his experience of his GMAT journey was "smooth" - many others would experience such a long journey as arduous and insufferable or would give up midway.
This student reminded me of the powerful idea that we don't suffer our circumstances; we suffer our perspective of our circumstances.
