Today was packed with insightful discussions, thought-provoking ideas, and powerful takeaways. Kwame Oppong, Head of Fintech and Innovation at the Bank of Ghana, delivered a compelling session highlighting the critical role of 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐲𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐬.
.
He emphasized the importance of viewing them as 𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬, focusing on creating structure and enabling trade—not just facilitating payments. A key challenge for the region is finding pathfinders to support faster, cheaper cross-border payments while driving meaningful impact.
Another standout session was on 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐈 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐋𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐲. Lars A. Rottweiler of Mbanq shared a wealth of knowledge, spotlighting how AI is revolutionizing lending. Sagicor Bank’s success story was especially inspiring, showcasing how strategic implementation can achieve significant results in a short period.
These conversations affirmed that innovation, collaboration, and leveraging technology are essential for advancing fintech in our region.
Beyond the thought leadership and innovation, I also stepped out of my comfort zone and had my first ziplining experience!
It was exhilarating and symbolic—a reminder to embrace new challenges and perspectives, much like what’s needed to transform the fintech landscape in our region.

It’s concerning to see virtual card platforms in Nigeria offering exchange rates as high as ₦1,849. As users, we deserve more affordable and transparent options. There’s a growing need for better alternatives that provide real value without excessive fees.
Even platforms that market themselves as cost-effective are falling short of expectations. While we adapt for now, it's clear there’s room for disruption in this space—better solutions are needed.
Until then, we’ll keep moving forward with what’s available, but I remain hopeful for innovation in this sector.
That money is paining me....!!!

Not longer just payments, but largely instore payments which should librate the informal market and remove friction on financial inclusion.
I mean, think about it. It's not new that exclusion is linked to poverty and literacy gap. why not. the less educated an Africa, the poorer they are and the higher the chances they'll be selling/trading something in the informal market.
We equip them with accessibility tools (speech, sound, visual, color) to take payments digitally, we kill many birds with one stone from the ground up. Ant is learning how to best do this.
Invest in us to change the world.
