With Gen Z set to constitute 30% of the workforce by 2030, it's crucial for HR professionals to adapt. A recent report from HR Brew shared insights from Aflac's CHRO, Jeri Hawthorne, on how to appeal to this emerging demographic. ❤️🩹 First, wellness is one of the most important components. A staggering 65% of Gen Z workers emphasize the importance of mental wellness benefits. Aflac has been proactive in this area, offering behavioral and financial wellness benefits since 2018 and 2019, respectively. It's clear that supporting employee wellness in a holistic manner can be a significant draw for Gen Z candidates. ⏰🏡 Flexibility is another key factor. The desire for flexible schedules and the option for hybrid or remote work is strong among Gen Z, with 75% expressing a preference for these work arrangements. Aflac's hybrid model, implemented post-pandemic, resonates with this need for flexibility, facilitating both in-person collaboration and remote work. 🌍 Last, Gen Z seeks purpose and alignment with their employer's values. Aflac's long-standing commitment to community initiatives, such as their efforts to end childhood cancer, resonates deeply with Gen Z's desire to work for organizations that contribute positively to society. Understanding these preferences is essential. By offering competitive compensation packages alongside wellness solutions, flexible work environments, and a mission-driven culture, organizations can attract and retain the best of Gen Z talent. 💼 Read the article today: https://lnkd.in/eFK4rsqh

Gallup recently released their 2024 'State of the Global Workplace' report, revealing crucial insights into how our employees are feeling. This week, we'll be sharing and discussing these findings. Here’s what stood out, and why it matters for all of us striving to create better workplaces. Work and Wellbeing 💼 Despite global employee engagement being at record highs, both engagement and overall wellbeing stagnated in 2023. This indicates substantial challenges both at work and in personal lives, directly impacting productivity. The Loneliness Epidemic 😣 Globally, 20% of employees report daily loneliness, higher among those under 35. Remote employees report significantly higher loneliness (25%) than those on-site (16%). This underscores the need for a communications strategy that keeps remote workers feeling included. Addressing Loneliness 👬 Consider incorporating more social interactions, such as: ☕Regular virtual coffee breaks 🎮Online team-building activities 🐶Channels for non-work topics (pets, movies, books, etc.) 👥Supporting resource groups to bring together employees with common identities or interests 🌟Peer-to-peer recognition platforms The Impact on Mental Health 🧠 Work significantly influences daily emotions and life satisfaction. Employees who dislike their jobs often experience high levels of stress and negative emotions. Being disengaged at work can feel as bad or worse than being unemployed. Conversely, meaningful work and relationships lead to more enjoyment and fewer negative emotions. Half of the engaged employees report thriving in life overall. The UK’s Situation 🌐 The UK compares unfavorably to the global picture: - Only 10% of UK workers are engaged, compared to 23% globally. - 27% of UK workers feel daily sadness, compared to 17% across Europe. - UK daily stress increased from 38% to 40%, higher than Europe’s average of 37%. The Cost of Disengagement 💰 “Actively disengaged employees” make up 15% of the global workforce. They suffer more in overall wellbeing, feel less respected, and experience less daily enjoyment. Over half (54%) reported high stress the previous day. Why This Matters ❓ Employers can’t solve all employee woes, but focusing on health, happiness, and wellbeing is in everyone’s best interest. Engaged employees are more productive, have better mental health, and contribute to a positive workplace culture. Let’s commit to creating environments where every individual feels valued and connected. Together, we can combat loneliness, reduce stress, and enhance overall wellbeing, making our workplaces more productive and fulfilling for everyone. Stay tuned as we dive deeper into these insights throughout the week! #EmployeeEngagement #WorkplaceWellbeing #MentalHealth #EmployeeExperience #Gallup2024 #WellbeingAtWork
