Switchio introduces EMV payment for EV chargers in Bavaria Anyone who has taken a long trip in an 🚘 electric vehicle outside familiar routes knows that a lot of 🗺 planning is required. The charging infrastructure does not offer the option of EMV card payments, and EV drivers are forced to download apps and register. We are very pleased that our collaboration with SMART/LAB Innovationsgesellschaft mbH and Mastercard has resulted in the first pilot project at the ESB charging park at the Sulzemoos motorway exit in Bavaria. More ESB and Thüga Aktiengesellschaft charging parks are expected to follow. The payment terminal connected to the Switchio EV Core, has been integrated into the existing backend architecture of the charging systems. This solution enables easy charging and contactless EMV payments without requiring registration. Moreover, it complies with AFIR legislation, which mandates open-loop card payment from 1 January 2027 for all new and existing public charging stations.
