Perfectly fitting to start the new year off with a wonderful Metrology project! Metrology is the science of measurement and its practical applications. It's a fantastic and fascinating area of study. One that, outside of surveyors, most of us in the AECO industry don't have enough exposure to. Armed with a few simple measuring tools and fundamental logic, you build truth upon truth, until you're able to reach a deeper understanding of a complex system. Such as doing the yearly realignment on our 5-axis CNC router. It's a nine-step process (and each step has many sub-steps), starting with the assumption that nothing is in alignment, and ending with a system that can accurately move to extremely tight tolerances and accuracy. It's both an empowering and humbling experience, where you can determine truth, but never absolute truth. You can get things square and level, but never perfectly so. It's vital to adjust things to be as accurate as possible, while also understanding your limits and balancing for pragmatic production.
