Regulation of behaviour analysts will play a crucial role for the field in Ontario and in the services provided to our communities. However, PBEO has highlighted that they may also profoundly impact the capacity of behaviour analytic services. This matters especially when it comes to families and individuals who rely on these services. Many service providers may face challenges in expanding their operations or even maintaining existing levels of service. This could lead to longer wait times and reduced availability of essential support for those in need. Will there be areas (e.g., rural, northern communities) that are more impacted by potential unintended outcomes of regulation? For professionals these changes may be more of a nuisance to adjust to. However, for families and individuals receiving or waiting for services, any capacity constraints will be more than an inconvenience— it affects their quality of life, mental health, and overall well-being. Imagine waiting years for a critical health service or support for a loved one. The stress and uncertainty can be overwhelming. It's vital that we reflect and evaluate the impact of regulation on behaviour analytic services to ensure public safety AND the need to expand capacity for quality services and reduce wait times. #CriticalThinking #payattention #showusthedata #datadriven #FutureFocused #PublicProtection #BehaviourAnalysis #Ontario #RegulationChanges #JoinTheConversation Disclaimer: PBEO is not affiliated with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario, and the College has neither reviewed nor approved any of PBEO's posts.

Our thesis is that the more emotional, mental, and physical power you have, the less vulnerable you are to the impact of gender-based violence. Emotional abusers undermine your sense of self-esteem and self-worth. Psychological abusers warp your sense of reality and self-confidence. Physical abusers will degrade your self-respect and use threats of or actual violence. We can equip participants with education and awareness, the positive coaching tools they need, and the physical confidence to defend themselves and others, reducing the likelihood and risks of gender-based violence on an individual, organisational, and community level. The whole point of self-defence isn't just to equip you with the tools to defend yourself at the crisis point. It's to develop a sense of confidence, knowledge, and empowerment to recognise situations before they even occur or escalate. Velocity Empowerment is looking to partner with workplaces, community organisations, and universities that want to address the issue of gender-based violence, improve organisational safety, and empower their staff, members, and students. NEW from the JSSA Training Institute: Earn 2 Category I Continuing Education credits at an upcoming free session designed to help mental health professionals equitably serve diverse communities. This session is made possible in partnership with JSSA’s Healthy Minds Fairfax Youth Advisory Council. A little more background … Research has shown that Hispanic, Black, and Asian populations experienced worse rates of anxiety and depression than their non-Hispanic, white counterparts during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. But, even before the events of 2020 and 2021, we know Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC)-identifying Americans received lower-quality care, while many were unable to access mental health services at all. The training will begin with a presentation to contextualize the issue and present best practices. This will be followed by a panel discussion of BIPOC transitional-age youth who will share their experiences of mental health and accessing care. The session is free and open to the public. Very timely newsletter from the NSW Mental Health Commission...just in time for Friday at the office. It is such a shame that on paper stuff is changing but the reality of the MH system is so different, at the Coal Face... The Comission has been great for ridding the world of Seclusion and Restraint, almost but really we need a High Court Case or a Royal Commission to Really Fix Things. Seclusion and Restraint, according to the UN, should NEVER Happen and Australia is a signatory to that convention on the Rights of People with a Disability but we cherry pick and ignore what we like...Because Australians are Special And also Backward when it comes to psychiatry and its practice. Why? MH laws are a travesty. eg if you complain to authorities about someone's mental health anonymously the Act Care Team(s) have to respond so you get a situation like the Stasi in East Germany where people could make vexatious + malicious complaints about someone hurting or harming them...happened to me recently. My non-practicing Lawyer Brain tells me if we had an MH Constitutional Challenge (ratio descendias) based on issues such as Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Political Association (implied rights to via common law) we could end up with a Bill of Rights and fix the constitution and MH Practice in one, fell swoop...at least that is my legal analysis... which is purely academic, of course. I can't and don't + can't ever practice law because I didn't do my practical training. Be thrilled if some lawyers were to give me their thoughts, without a set of facts, sadly, because that would be giving far too much away... Anyway, here is the latest from the NSW MH Commission... Enjoy. I know I did https://lnkd.in/gQQksHeM #law #MentalHealth #NSWMentalHealthCommission #HighCourt #BillofRIghts #RoyalCommission #MEAA #Journalism
