I have heard that term so many times... as a accountant I can actually tell you your total cost of ownership. From how many purchasing people you have to how many accounts payable clerks you have. I'm so glad I retired as I got tired of managers telling me the great pricing they got on something then when I saw the freight and broke it down for them to the piece it was deer in the headlights. Even funnier was the capital expenditure requests to buy equipment. It was going to run in never never land and not require significant outlays for takeoffs and general wear and tear parts to keep on a shelf so you don't shut your business down. Sorry but that phrase became one of the spots on my consultant Bingo card.

Q4 is upon us and the new year budgets are getting set up.
Proactive packaging improvements can come from many different buckets.
What areas do you see your company looking to improve in?
- Rightsizing Your Packaging: reduce the material, reduce the size. Your freight carriers will thank you, and your shipping costs will drop.
- Supplier Collaboration: when is the last time you and your incoming part suppliers talked about packaging?
- Continuous Improvement: many groups fall into “we have always done it that way.” Another set of unbiased eyes can go a long ways when uncovering cost savings in a packaging system.
To teams without packaging engineers, who is looking into these buckets for cost saving opportunities?
