International Women in Robotics Day: Celebrating HERstory in Robotics Today, the 2nd of October, we proudly join the global celebration of International Women in Robotics Day! This day is a significant opportunity to support organizations like Women in Robotics (WiR), which is dedicated to highlighting the invaluable contributions of women in the robotics field. As stated by Andra Keay, President of Women in Robotics, "Robotics history is still HIS story. Women in Robotics is working hard to include HER story in the future of robotics." WiR began as a small network and has grown into a vital force advocating for women’s visibility, equity, and opportunities in robotics. Despite progress, women remain underrepresented in the robotics workforce, facing barriers such as pay inequality and limited promotion opportunities. WiR is actively addressing these issues by providing scholarships, creating local chapters worldwide, and launching initiatives like the Inclusive Employer Index Survey to improve diversity and inclusion in our industry. Let's amplify the voices of women in robotics and celebrate their achievements! We invite you to reflect on the inspiring women who have paved the way and to consider how we can continue to support and uplift the next generation of female leaders in technology. #Davos2025 Our Founder & CEO Maira Genovese joined the WORLD WOMAN FOUNDATION #Davos Agenda, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum, for the panel Creative Economy & Equality Moonshot. Along with a group of professionals, the panel discussed the role played by the creative industry as a diversity and inclusivity driver. Among the highlights, the session explored the power of collaboration to reach more clever ways to face inequality and how creative initiatives and formats of expression can lead society's advancements. In the face of recent developments, especially in the social media realm, panellists also touched on the challenges creative industries are to expect - from brands to agencies - and how important it is for women and men to become allies in this scenario. Across industries, labour shortages pose a significant barrier to global economic progress 🌐 Women continue to be underrepresented in the workforce, particularly in senior management roles. Even in forward-thinking sectors like healthcare, only about 30% of C-level positions are held by women… However, leading robot manufacturers such as ABB, FANUC Europe, KUKA, & YASKAWA Europe are actively addressing gender disparities in the workplace! Their initiatives begin early, engaging with students to foster interest in robotics and STEM fields from a young age 🎓 The IFR & its members are committed to empowering women in the industry, striving to provide them with the visibility and recognition they truly deserve. Yesterday, I was thrilled to participate in a panel discussion at 360 TECH INDUSTRY – Feira Internacional da Indústria 4.0/5.0, Robótica, Automação e Compósitos in Porto titled "Breaking Barriers: Women Driving Innovation and Competitiveness." Held on May 22nd at 3:00 PM, the panel brought together esteemed experts like CRISTINA OYON (Director of Technology, Innovation and Sustainability, Grupo SPRI) Ana I. Alcaine (#Supernovas, EIT Manufacturing), and Víctor Alonso Ramos (Deputy Director of Manufacturing and Digital Transition, CTAG – Centro Tecnológico de Automoción de Galicia) Moderated by Antoni Pijoan, Director of EIT Manufacturing West, the discussion delved into the critical challenges faced by women in the tech and manufacturing sectors, exploring ways to overcome these barriers. The conversation focused on the powerful connection between diversity and inclusion initiatives, fostering innovation and competitiveness. We also discussed the critical need for upskilling and reskilling programs to achieve true gender equality in these fields. Representing Women TechEU, I had the opportunity to share valuable data from our first call. This data highlighted the importance of supporting women entrepreneurs, particularly those in deep tech, and the need for further initiatives to empower them. The panel discussion was a resounding success in raising awareness about the vital role women should play in driving innovation and competitiveness across the tech and manufacturing industries.
