Safety First: Lifting advisory ️ Had a productive toolbox talk today focusing on safe lifting procedures with hydra and cranes on our construction site. Reinforced the importance of these key points: 1. Rigging inspection: Ensure all slings, chains, and straps are certified and in good condition before each lift. 2. Load capacity: Never exceed the rated capacity of the hydra or crane. 3. Communication: Clear communication between signalers, operators, and crew members is crucial throughout the lift. 4. Hazard zones: Establish clear hazard zones around the lifting operation and ensure everyone stays clear. 5. Lift plan: Follow a pre-approved lift plan for complex or critical lifts. By following these safety practices, we can prevent accidents and keep everyone safe on the job site.

We held a site-wide safety stand down starting with a stretch and flex and a detailed presentation on ladder safety. A safety stand down is held first thing in the morning before any job site work is to begin. In this instance, the superintendent reviewed safety aspects around ladder use. Each meeting is conducted in English and in Spanish to ensure everyone is ready to start the day safely. #safetystanddown #laddersafety #construction #momentbymoment

Toolbox Briefing Before lifting operations

Construction Safety Week – Day 3. We listen, collaborate, and embrace every voice to improve individual participation around safety topics. Each person, regardless of position or tenure, should feel their ideas are heard and any concerns acknowledged.     Today’s jobsite focus is hand-held cutting tools. Lacerations often result from using the wrong tool, or the correct tool but in an unsafe environment. We reduce these risks by providing the right equipment for the task, securing materials properly, inspecting tools and safety guards, following tool instructions, and prohibiting unsafe tools such as fixed open-blade knives.     Construction Safety Week #ConstructionSafetyWeek #SafetyWeek #safetyWeek2024 #Construction #VECAelectric #VECASafety

As we close out 2023 I want to look back and thank everyone for the hard work, planning, and execution that goes into meeting, ambitious safety, goals, and attempting to obtain lofty ideals. Every year our goal is that nobody gets hurt - this year we had a setback early, but I am proud of the response and lessons learned. We worked 3/4 of 1 million man-hours and got everybody home safely. Thank you to all of our crews, contractors, safety professionals, welders, mechanics, and supervisors. We hosted 16 evenings with safety meetings between 4 offices, 52 planning meetings with management Eight labor foreman safety meetings and all of these were early in the morning or in the evenings. Hawkins's entire team has proven that a good safety plan is important to everybody and that time spent constructing a good JSA is the best way to start safe and stay focused on quality work. Your creativity in creating safety slogans and incentive programs helps to drive a safety culture that expects nobody to get hurt, and that there is an obligation to stop jobs if safety parameters are not met. We still learn valuable lessons and have not had a perfectly safe year where nobody gets even a scratch, but that will be the goal that we set again for 2024 and I look forward to trying to accomplish that goal by working hard, planning, and executing safe work!
