During Hispanic Heritage Month, we're reflecting on the incredible legacy of Diego Rivera, one of Mexico’s most famous painters. His breathtaking frescos at the Detroit Institute of Arts, showcasing the Industrial Revolution, are iconic—and they have a personal connection for us. Our owner, Gary, grew up hearing stories from his grandfather, who was not only friends with Rivera but also spent time with him while he worked on these masterpieces. Rivera’s creativity and vision continue to inspire us today, and we’re proud to honor his contributions to art and culture. #HispanicHeritageMonth #DiegoRivera #PCIHydraulics

Inspired by Liz Huntley’s speech today at the Rotaract Club of Birmingham luncheon, I am compelled to share a few key notes with you! 🎙️ "Your character is your destiny." 🌟 I had the privilege of listening to Liz's captivating speech at the Rotaract luncheon, and I must say, it left me feeling truly inspired! Liz emphasized the profound truth that our destiny is not determined by external factors such as certifications or the various phases of life we go through. Instead, it is our character that shapes our path towards success and fulfillment. She highlighted four essential values that serve as pillars in supporting our character development: 1️⃣ Moral Virtues: Liz emphasized the importance of embracing moral virtues as a foundation for building a strong character. These virtues guide our actions and choices, enabling us to navigate life with integrity, empathy, and compassion. 2️⃣ Civic Virtues: Liz shed light on the significance of civic virtues in shaping our character. By actively engaging in our communities, practicing good citizenship, and contributing to the well-being of society, we not only enhance our character but also create a positive impact on the world around us. 3️⃣ Intellectual Virtues: Liz underscored the value of intellectual virtues in nurturing our character. By fostering a thirst for knowledge, lifelong learning, critical thinking, and curiosity, we empower ourselves to grow, adapt, and make informed decisions that align with our values. 4️⃣ Performance Virtues: Liz emphasized the role of performance virtues in shaping our character. These virtues encompass qualities such as resilience, discipline, determination, and perseverance. By cultivating these virtues, we can overcome obstacles, embrace challenges, and consistently strive for excellence in all aspects of our lives. Liz's speech reminded me that regardless of the battles we may face or the different phases of life we find ourselves in, it is our character that ultimately determines our destiny. Certifications and external achievements may open doors, but it is our character that propels us forward and makes a lasting impact. Now, I’d like to encourage you, let's embrace these values and strive to strengthen our character every day. Together, we can create a future where our destinies are shaped by the content of our character, not merely by external validations. 💪 #Inspiration #RotaractLuncheon #Values #Virtues #unity #growthmindset #hope

🎉 Next month marks the 70th anniversary of the landmark Brown v. Board of Education decision, a pivotal moment in the fight for civil rights and equality in education. While this decision aimed to dismantle the "separate but equal" doctrine, its legacy is complex and far-reaching. I recently had the pleasure of teaching my students about this intricate legacy during our February Black History Month culture and diversity lessons. The immediate backlash following the decision led to the unjust removal of educators of color from the education industry for decades, perpetuating systemic racism and inequality. This is most evident in the persistent lack of diversity within the education sector. Before Brown v Board of Education, there were thousands of highly qualified Black and Brown teachers in segregated schools across the nation. However, following the decision, many of these schools were shut down, and there was a nationwide mass firing of Black and Brown educators. Despite their equal or even superior qualifications, they were often not hired in the newly integrated schools. Some districts even refused to integrate and instead closed all their schools for a few years. As with many aspects of society, representation matters. The absence of educators of color likely discouraged students of color from pursuing education degrees, further exacerbating the lack of diversity in the profession. This vicious cycle has been perpetuated for 70 years. As we celebrate progress, it's crucial to acknowledge and confront the ongoing echoes of this racist backlash that still reverberate today. Let's honor this anniversary by learning and sharing the accurate history, while also reaffirming our commitment to creating inclusive and equitable educational environments for all. #BrownvBoard #CivilRights #InclusiveEducation #EducationForAll 📚✊🏾

#Empathy and #JusticeInHealthcare may be new concepts to your healthcare organization’s leadership. But they are important ones to propagate. Henrietta Lacks is just one example of millions of patients who are harmed by the very people who are supposed to help them. How? Because her rights as a human being and as a #patient were never part of the equation. I’m not a religious person, but I do believe in the golden rule of do unto others as you would have others do unto you. If we only stopped and remember that before we took action, there would be more healthier and happier people in this world. #BlackHistoryMonth #BlackHistoryMonthShouldBeEveryMonth #HealthcareDisparity #HealthcareEmpathy #MedicalJustice #TheGoldenRule
This Black History Month, we remember Henrietta Lacks, whose story epitomizes the struggle against medical misdiagnosis. Henrietta's experience underscores the disparities in healthcare faced by African Americans, highlighting the urgent need for equitable treatment and comprehensive medical practices. Let's honor her legacy by advocating for a healthcare system that prioritizes accuracy, empathy, and justice for all. #BlackHistoryMonth
