Let the countdown begin ⏱ Two more Friday posts before a week of #Classof2028 Integration updates! As we near closer, I wanted to share a prompt I found online for #ProfessionalDevelopment. We create resources like Question Cards and a Wellness Corner for our #TCOP students to use throughout the week to help create connection between their colleagues. I thought this prompt was a great way to have our students thinking about the possibilities as they start their professional journeys as #FuturePharmacists! Although, I think this question is great for anyone: Where do you see yourself professionally in 5 years, in 5 words? My answer is: Creating meaningful moments for connection 🤝 “What about media skills, or a moving up in your role?” You may ask. “Or maybe listing something about events. You are working on Integration Week, after all!” And fair enough. These are things I am thinking about constantly – there are so many avenues I want to build skills in professionally. But I'm a big picture person, so I’m trying to think of the day-in, day-out work, which I'd like to mirror this sentiment, regardless of my title or industry. 🌅 My sentence may change, and I’m excited to see what I’d say a year from now. 🗓 So, should I revisit this prompt every year...?

Global Technology Leader | Result-Driven | Thought Leadership | Strategic Planning | Team Leadership | People Management| Delivery Management |Innovation| Regulatory & Compliance | Collaboration | Agile | Accountability
During our careers, we often find that our professional path is intertwined with our lives at home. Over my career, I've had the privilege of being a part of the Software Engineering world, primarily at S&P Global. This journey has been a remarkable one, marked by personal milestones, professional growth, and a surprising connection to my passion for Brazilian Ju-jitsu (BJJ). Early in my career at S&P Global, I was juggling the responsibilities of a new family, parenthood, and moving to the suburbs. Those were the days of relentless dedication – long hours and weekends – doing whatever it took to excel. It wasn't until the last 6-7 years that I began to learn the art of working smarter, a transformation that had a profound impact on my career trajectory. Interestingly, this period of professional growth coincided with my decision to take up Brazilian Ju-jitsu. And it's no coincidence. I firmly believe that the lessons I learned on the BJJ mat played a pivotal role in shaping my career, and vice versa. The parallels between Software Engineering and BJJ are striking – from crisis management to problem-solving, continual improvement, and teamwork, these worlds share common concerns and topics. Today, I proudly hold a Purple Belt at Sheridan BJJ. After six years of intensive training, one thing has become abundantly clear – the importance of giving back. In BJJ, it's about working with lower belts, helping them refine their techniques, and contributing to the growth of the community, which I'm currently doing by assisting with kids' classes during my newfound free time. In Software Engineering, it's through mentoring and people management. The joy I find in giving back inspired me to embark on this series of posts. In the coming weeks, I'll be sharing the valuable lessons I've gleaned from my career journey, sprinkled with insights from the world of BJJ. I hope you'll join me on this adventure, finding both information and entertainment in my stories. Feel free to share your thoughts, experiences, and ideas in the comments below. #softwareengineering #bjj #personalgrowth #givingback

What do you expect from your new hire during the first month at the job? 1. To listen, watch and read a lot 2. To ask a lot, have ideas, but be humble 3. To accept our workplace conventions and suggest changes a long time from now 4. To accept our technology choices and not keep going on about how something else is so much better 5. To talk to me openly about how he/she is progressing and any difficulties 6. To write stuff down, make notes, contribute to our knowledge base 7. To hunger for an opportunity to commit something that can be trusted Of course this is only possible if in return we 1. Provide one or more mentors who genuinely want to help him/her 2. Understand that he/she will struggle with many things at first 3. Listen, watch and hear him/her out 4. Provide every resource he/she could possibly need without question 5. Don’t overload him/her with management nonsense (meetings, reports, noting tasks completed in 12 different places)

A buddy of mine from my music career texted me in excitement today and informed me that he is entering the software world. He was just completed his first week of a development 'Boot Camp'. This reminded me of how I entered the industry and I dug up this old company newsletter magazine from my very first company. I was hired straight out of college by DCSS, a consulting firm that believed in investing heavily in the potential of new graduates and saw something in me. They provided a 'Boot Camp' for fresh out-of-college hires, a place where I made my first coworker friends (hey Cat - hey Adam - wink wink). I'm curious, does your company offer a similar onboarding experience today? And what are your thoughts on the effectiveness of such programs? #FirstYearEngineer #CareerJourney #TechConsulting #EarlyCareer #ConsultingLife
