Your field technicians ARE speaking with your clients so they must have great and professional communication and customer service skills. They will be speaking with your customers, they will be communicating with your management and your office coordinators. Want to hear another benefit of working with a recruiter? This week, I was helping a client fill a couple of openings for a field #HVAC technician. In one of the candidate calls, I literally got yelled at for 5 minutes and told how to do my job 🤣 . He had a lot of missing information on his resume and I asked a couple of very basic questions related to the job. He got angry during the call. In contrast, another candidate I spoke to was simply amazing. He spoke about his work experience, answered all the questions in a very friendly manner, was professional and respectful during the entire phone call. When submitting a candidate's resume to hiring managers, I do include "soft skills" observations such as " He has great and professional communication skills as well as follow-up skills". I understand that for most of my clients, their technicians are in a client-facing position, so communication/ customer service skills are equally as important as hard skills. #constructionjobs #hvacjobs #recruiting

Their key duties include: Bringing Fiber Connections into the Building: Running fiber optic cables from external sources (such as a street or utility pole) into a building, ensuring they reach designated internal locations like data centers or network rooms. Terminating Fiber: Preparing fiber ends and attaching connectors using specialized tools, ensuring a reliable connection for data transmission. Tower Work: Climbing communication towers to install, maintain, or repair equipment such as antennas, cables, and other hardware. This includes working at heights and ensuring that all equipment is properly aligned for optimal signal transmission. Cable Installation: Installing various types of cables, including both fiber optic and coaxial cables, in a range of environments. This might involve running cables through conduits, along utility poles, or inside buildings. Testing and Troubleshooting: Using tools like OTDR (Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer) and other network testing equipment to ensure the integrity of fiber connections, troubleshoot issues, and repair any faults in the system. Repairs and Maintenance: Performing maintenance on both ground-level and tower equipment, including the repair of damaged cables, ensuring reliable network performance. By combining skills in fiber optic termination, tower work, and cable installation, this technician ensures that high-speed data and communication networks are properly installed, tested, and maintained across a variety of environments. A field technician specializing in fiber termination, tower work, and cable installation, typically offers extensive expertise in handling the installation and maintenance of high-speed communication infrastructure.    Skills: in bringing fiber connections into buildings, terminating fiber, performing cable installation, and conducting tower work. Job titles in job postings. If you offer a job and only list it on the boards as “Field Service Technician” or “Installer” you are shooting yourself in the foot trying to fill the position. As a job seeker, I cannot click on this job to find out exactly what it is. If I do, and it is not what I am looking/qualified for, the job board will automatically assume that I am interested in this job or others like it and spam the unholy ever-living heck out of my email for months on end with similar job offers that I do not need or want. At the expense of jobs that I am looking for. Please specify in that title what kind of service it is! If you are a job board which lists all these lovely jobs for us to look at, please by the mercy of the gods upgrade your internal search engines!!! Four years of hundreds of notifications for jobs I do not want or am not qualified for and I cannot get you to stop sending them. The words “Technician” and “Installer” figure heavily in my job titles. Telecommunications Technician. Telecommunications Installation Technician. Cable Installer. Cable Technician. Structured Cable Technician. Data Technician. Network Technician. Telecom Installer. I build data network/phone infrastructure. All the hardware and cabling necessary to operate these systems. I just build them, don’t operate them. I build them, plug them in, turn them over to the client’s IT people who then program/operate the systems. I only go back if they need moves/adds/changes or do a full-on cutover to a new system. Here is what I get out of my job searches on the job boards: If I put ”Technician” into the search bar- Window. Appliance. Automotive. Airplane. Termite. Pesticide. Customer Service. Computer. Electronic. Building Maintenance. Garbage Collection. HVAC. Repair (insert any kind of descriptive type you can think of), Removal (for those who don’t know, a Removal Technician collects and transports dead bodies to the morgue or funeral homes…soooo not my job!) If I put “Installer/Installation” into the search bar- Window. Window Blinds. Carpet. Door. Auto Glass. Solar. Furniture. Tile. Automotive GPS Systems. Closet Organizer Systems. Car Audio. Car Alarms. Security Alarms. Fire Alarms. Security Cameras. AV Equipment. Motion Detectors. Door Opening Alarms. Door Access Controls. Smart Home Controls. Appliance. Shower. Lawn Sprinkler Systems. Water Coolers. Countertops. Cabinets. Shelving Units. Display/Merchandising Units. And these are just a sampling of what I have been given the past four years. Most of the latter list will also show up with Technician attached. Apparently the words “Telecommunications,” “Network,” “Cable,”, and “Data” are completely irrelevant to all the search engines. Those words are almost completely ignored and they go straight for any job on the planet with technician or installer in the title. So unbelievably frustrating and disheartening. If I didn’t have a family to house and care for I would go out and lie in traffic.
