Prospect Village Community Park is a planned 8-acre oval-shaped park in Sterling Ranch. The park’s vision is focused on elevating the inclusive nature of the space and creating a regional asset for both Sterling Ranch residents and neighboring communities. By including inclusive elements that focus on the needs of all people—those with physical challenges, as well as the needs of the family and support groups around them—playgrounds and parks can be community amenities that unite and bring joy to people of all ages, from all walks of life. On the park's east side, a pool and central gathering area are perched atop the high point, providing spectacular views of the mountains and the park below. The pool has been designed with inclusive elements such as a zero-entry walk-in feature, which allows easier access for children, seniors, and individuals with differing abilities to enter and exit the pool. Below the pool is a large turf field sized to accommodate soccer, active recreation, and organized community events. The north end of the park provides additional recreational opportunities with a basketball court and a small turf area for lawn games. An inclusive playground planned with equipment made for various ages and abilities sits just south of the pool. ADA standards require all playgrounds to be “accessible” for those with physical disabilities but do not necessarily focus on the playground amenities or equipment. By contrast, inclusive playgrounds focus on the needs of all people, including typically developing able-bodied children and those with developmental, intellectual, cognitive, sensory, and physical challenges. Prospect Village Community Park is envisioned as a place that is welcoming to everyone. The inclusive nature of the pool and playground will strive to foster social inclusion and allow children to experience a sense of belonging, actively participate in the community, and share spaces where empathy and friendships blossom. #pcsgroupco #landplanning #urbandesign #landscapedesign #landscapearchitecture #landarch #3Dvisualization #parks #playgrounds #inclusviedesign #masterplannedcommunitty #sterlingranch #colorado

July is NRPA’s Park and Recreation Month, and there's no better time to recognize the essential role parks play in our communities, especially for marginalized groups. Parks are more than just green spaces; they are places of inclusion, healing, and community building. Promoting Physical and Mental Health: For many marginalized communities, access to healthcare can be limited. Parks provide free, accessible spaces for physical activity, which is crucial for maintaining health. They also offer a serene environment for mental relaxation, which is vital in reducing stress and anxiety, especially for those facing systemic challenges. Fostering Social Connections: Parks serve as gathering spots where people can meet and interact, breaking down social barriers. Community events and programs hosted in parks create opportunities for marginalized groups to connect, share experiences, and build supportive networks. Encouraging Youth Engagement: For young people in underserved communities, parks are safe spaces where they can engage in positive activities, learn new skills, and stay away from harmful environments. Access to recreational programs and sports can be life-changing, offering pathways to personal growth and future opportunities. Cultural Expression and Identity: Parks often host cultural events and festivals that celebrate diverse heritages and traditions. These events provide marginalized communities with a platform to express their cultural identities, fostering a sense of pride and belonging. As we celebrate Park and Recreation Month, let's acknowledge the significant impact parks have on enhancing the quality of life for all, especially those who need it most. Together, let's continue to support and advocate for inclusive, accessible, and vibrant parks in every community. #mmcité #mmcitéstreetfurniture #mmcitédesign #streetfurniture #streetscape #outdoorfurniture #design #publicspace #publicrealm #landscapedesign #landscapearchitecture #landarch #outdoordesign #urbandesign #urbanfurniture #urbanelements #urbanism #urbanisme #urbanist #urbanplanning #urbanlife #architectural #architecture #citylife #city #park #urban #whereyoubelong

Play means something different to everyone. Good public realm provides space for people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to engage in play. They contain physical elements that are suggestive rather than prescriptive, integrate wild things into urban places and inspire social and sensory engagement. Far from being superfluous, play is an essential part of wellbeing at every stage of life. It connects us physically, socially and emotionally to the people and places around us, helping us create happier, healthier and more inclusive communities. Some of the best forms of play cannot be predicted, instead they are inventive, explorative and creative. Both children and adults have the capacity to engage creatively with the environments they live, play or simply pass through. For this reason playful spaces need not be synonymous with playgrounds, they are simply places which invite us to actively participate with them and those around us in acts of placemaking. Written into the Design Code for The Phoenix are the principles to facilitate a diverse range of playful encounters fit for every stage of life, ability or background. It also contains a commitment to integrate planting, green infrastructure and high value ecology into our play spaces at every possible opportunity. These are all attempts to weave play into the fabric of this new neighbourhood.

Design Thinking for Your Neighborhood Revitalizing a Local Park for All Ages Is your local park underutilized? Design thinking can help create a vibrant community space! By understanding residents' needs and preferences, community organizers can brainstorm ways to revitalize the park, prototype features like inclusive playgrounds or fitness equipment, and gather feedback from residents to ensure the park caters to everyone's needs. Example: A community group wants to revitalize a neglected park. Design thinking can guide them to survey residents, brainstorm ideas like hosting community events or creating designated areas for different activities (dog parks, sports courts), and prototype a new park layout before securing funding and implementing changes. #CommunityDevelopment #PublicSpace #DesignThinking #Inclusivity #PublicEngagement #ParksAndRecreation #UrbanDesign

Helping Coliving Founders Succeed | Proptech & Coliving Consultant | Podcast Host: Coliving Innovators | Everything Coliving Since a Decade
Its been a decade since I started building coliving communities in my first coliving space. Back then, Hosting events = Community building. But so much has changed since then. Community-building frameworks have evolved. We have seen the practical success and failure of approaches that were once theoretical. I have gathered all my learnings from working on community building in the article under the following: - Defining the Purpose and Values of the Coliving Community - Fostering Open Communication and Conflict Resolution - Hosting Meaningful Community Events - Balancing Privacy and Community - Leveraging Technology for Coliving Community Engagement at Scale - Fostering a Sense of Ownership and Responsibility In conclusion, today's coliving community building approaches require a thoughtful blend of intentional design, open communication, and fostering meaningful connections. What according to you are non-negotiables in community building? Read mine in the article I recently wrote in comments. Gui Perdrix would love to have your thoughts here. #coliving #communitybuilding #colivingcommunities #colivingspaces
