Meet Amelia Carver Hydrographic Surveyor at PD Ports. Following a degree in Marine Geography at Cardiff University, Amelia undertook an industry placement working on surveys within the offshore sector, mapping the seabed and coastline for marine energy projects. It was here that she found an enthusiasm for hydrographic surveying, enjoying the unique and ever changing challenges of the specialism. After five years of working at sea, Amelia’s next role saw her move back to the Tees Valley as Hydrographic Surveyor at PD Ports. “I loved working offshore, but I always knew that if there was an opportunity to work in the ports industry, I’d grab it with both hands. When PD Ports approached me with an open role, I saw it as a chance to continue working in the industry I love while having a more involved home life." With the needs of the planet being more important than ever, Amelia’s role is helping to protect our environment and ensure the future is safeguarded for generations to come. Our success is built on diversity, understanding and hard work. Doers. Thinkers. Innovators. Engineers. They all make our story stronger. And you could write the next chapter. At Cummins Cederberg - Coastal & Marine Engineering, we’re at the forefront of leveraging cutting-edge coastal engineering modeling to ensure the safety and efficiency of mooring operations for large cruise and oil vessels. 🚢 Our dedicated team is undertaking comprehensive dynamic mooring analyses, assessing the impact of various environmental factors such as wind, waves, and current on critical mooring components including bollards, fenders, and mooring lines. 🌊 Why is this analysis crucial, you may ask? Picture this: the loads exerted on mooring components could surpass their rated strength due to excessive motions. The repercussions could be dire, with mooring lines snapping under immense force, resulting in adverse impacts to infrastructure and overall safety at the mooring site. Our in-depth analyses establish safe vessel mooring conditions to help optimize arrangements and ultimately enhance port operations. By evaluating the vessel's response to environmental conditions we're able to provide site specific insights that drive informed decision-making. 📈✨ #CoastalEngineering #MooringAnalyses #MaritimeOperations #EngineeringExcellence

Are you a problem solver at heart that is fond of the outdoors? Land surveying is a great career for those who are willing to put in the time to learn the many facets of what we do, anywhere from construction layout, 3D scanning, drone work, building surface models to researching land back to the original patents to make boundary determinations and more. This is just a portion of what makes us surveyors. It's not always easy, but at the end of the day, not many things that are rewarding are.
