We are proud to support Food Bank Aid’s 36-hour Appeal on Sunday 25th to Monday 26th February to raise £1.25 million so it can continue to support 31 food banks across North London, helping 20,000 individuals. To support the Appeal, please visit https://lnkd.in/eN_4zV_K   In the wake of an escalating cost-of-living crisis, Food Bank Aid faces unprecedented challenges as donations have fallen off a cliff and this ‘cost-of-living crisis’ becomes a ‘cost of giving’ crisis. Last year, there was a 38% increase in the number of people visiting a food bank in London many of those were working people, with 1 in 4 parents in London struggling to afford to feed their family.   The Appeal is match funded, and so every pound donated during the 36 hours will be doubled and 100% raised will be spent on essential goods for the food banks.   Helping may not change our lives, but it will change the lives of others.   Can we bank on you?

I understand the focus but recent days have highlighted we need to radically re think how we address levels of violence across the UK As someone who spent his last ten years with the Scottish VRU I was part of a team who was forced to think differently. The constant focus on knives isn’t helpful. We don’t have a knife crime problem. We have a violence problem. Knives don’t kill people. It’s the mindset of the perpetrators that leads to the knife being used. The knife crime label isn’t helpful. It’s a media term and we are being prevented from addressing issues if we keep calling it such Knife violence starts long before you think it does. Also campaigns like this might look the right thing to do however the evidence says they rarely work. Why? Too much focus on the negative. Telling people that bad things will happen if you do bad things doesn’t work as a prevention tool. It’s much better to focus on the positive. “Most young people don’t carry knives” or “most people know the consequences of carrying knives” Campaigns need to better follow the power of PIE Positive Inclusive Empowering. This is a proven tool that works A great example is a campaign from the US. Friends don’t let friends drive drunk led to around 70% of US citizens taking car keys off their friends It’s time to build relationships. Relationships are the currency of change Please think prevention better.
