An ambitious plan for this year’s Paris Olympics 2024 is to make it the most sustainable Olympics yet. Targeting the Olympic Village, the aim is to significantly reduce the carbon impact during both the construction phase and the entire Olympic cycle by 45%. Hosting over 25,000 people including athletes and officials - a geothermal energy system will replace air conditioning. However, national Olympic committees will have the option of setting up their own AC units in specific cases but must comply with the organising committee’s technical criteria. For the first time in the history of the Games, the Olympic Flame shines without fuel. So, how does it burn you might ask? 🔥 The cauldron is a key showcase of the organizers’ ambition for a low-carbon Olympics cutting its emissions in half and the emissions of one of its main symbols. The design of the Paris 2024 Olympic flame is very different from previous games in that it is fueled by electricity rather than fossil fuels. The ring at the base of the balloon houses 40 LED lights. These lights illuminate a cloud of water vapor produced by 200 high-pressure misting sprinklers to give the flickering and smoke effect of real flames. A meticulous combination of a cloud of mist and beams of light, the Olympic Flame will flicker with electricity as its sole source of energy. It demonstrates the use of a newer technology to not produce too many emissions. Paris organizing chief said: “We were ambitious and we wanted to bring together something spectacular and environmental responsibility at the same time.” And spectacular it was! Especially since it then proceeded to gently soar into the night sky. 🎈 #sustainability #innovation #Paris2024

In the sheer bonkers-ness of the Olympic Opening ceremony on Friday, the standout might just have been the incredible olympic cauldron, showing this to be the most sustainable Olympics in history. 🇫🇷 🔥 EDF's mesmerising Olympic flame is entirely free from fossil fuel combustion. 💧 It's actually an illusion crafted from electricity and water vapour, a top-secret project developed over many years. 🔦 Projecting a powerful stream of light onto a cloud of water; a warm, living electric flame without fossil fuels: a true technological feat, the flame-ring breaks the boundaries. ☁️ The balloon motif echoes back to the first documented air balloon flight that happened in Paris in 1783. 💡 The designer left school with no money and no contacts in 2001 and began designing in his bedroom with his office being his bed. The 2024 Olympic cauldron is more than just a spectacle; it's a groundbreaking statement of intent. This innovative, sustainable masterpiece proves that even the grandest of stages can be powered by clean energy. 🇫🇷 #Paris2024 #Sustainability #Innovation #CleanEnergy #OlympicFlame #Technology #Inspiration

🔥 The Olympic Flame Delights in Paris 2024! 🔥 As we say goodbye to the phenomenal Paris 2024 Olympic Games, we are thrilled to spotlight one of the most iconic symbols of the event—the Olympic Flame! This year, the flame is not just a beacon of global unity and sportsmanship, but also a shining example of sustainable innovation. Paris 2024 chose to house the Olympic flame in a gorgeous hot air balloon designed by Mathieu Lehanneur. However, the ring of fire was actually Proudly brought to life by EDF (one our key clients). The effect of a flame is basically a combination of a water spray and beams of light projected onto the mist, creating the illusion of flames. "The ring of fire, almost [seven meters] in diameter, incorporates 40 LED spotlights to illuminate the cloud created by 200 high-pressure misting nozzles. Above all, EDF has succeeded in guaranteeing the flow of electricity and water 60 [meters] above the ground, when the Cauldron is in flight" (EDF press release). The actual flame was in glass box next to the hot air balloon and was no brighter than a candle for the whole games to honour both the symbolism of the flame and the sustainable nature of the Games. EDF's commitment to renewable energy and sustainability has truly set the stage for an Olympics that not only celebrates athletic excellence but also pioneers environmental responsibility. And hopefully the hot air balloon will be retained long term to symbolize not only a glorious even but also a significant step forward in the journey towards a greener future. #Paris2024 #OlympicFlame #Sustainability

𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗛𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗲𝗻: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗶𝗱𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰!🏅 Did you know that the Paris 2024 Olympic Games aim to be the most sustainable Games in history? And that green hydrogen is set to play a pivotal role in making these Games greener? Here are some facts: ⛳Green hydrogen is powering five hydrogen generators, boosting local electrical capacity during the equestrian, modern pentathlon, and golf events in Versailles and Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines. 🏙️ The Games are acting as a catalyst for expanding hydrogen infrastructure in Paris. The number of hydrogen refuelling stations is expected to double, the hydrogen vehicle fleet will triple in size. This infrastructure will continue to benefit the city long after the Olympic Games have ended. 🚗 The Paris 2024 organizers are using a fleet of 500 green hydrogen-powered cars to transport athletes, officials, and guests around Paris. After the Olympics, these cars will be integrated into the fleet of taxis serving the Paris area. Additionally, a dozen hydrogen fuel-cell buses are being used to transport the athletes. We're absolutely on fire to see the Paris 2024 Olympic Games going for 'green gold.' Green hydrogen can enable climate neutrality in numerous applications. At Sunfire, we initially see the greatest need for the use of green hydrogen in industry. As a torchbearer in industrial electrolysis, we at Sunfire share the 'Olympian' dream of a fossil-free future. 🌍💚 #HydrogenIsTheAnswer #Sunfire #GreenHydrogen #Paris2024

Can you believe it? The Paris Olympic flame isn't actually a flame. 🤯 As a passionate advocate for sustainability, I’m excited to see how major events like the Olympics can become more environmentally responsible. Paris has completely revamped the Olympic flame tradition by ditching the natural gas-powered torch. Instead, The cauldron held aloft by a hot air balloon is equipped with 40 LED spotlights and some 200 misting nozzles. Together, they create the illusion of flame and smoke. It looks totally realistic, but without the environmental impact. This is so cool! And there is more! The torch is made of 100% recycled steel. Another way the carbon footprint is being reduced? Only 2,000 torches were produced, and this represents one-fifth the number than previous games. #Olympics #Paris2024 #Sustainability #ClimateChange

It's no secret that major world events significantly contribute to increased carbon emissions and waste generation, but it's a good thing to know that the #ParisOlympics have adopted a 'carbon neutral approach'. This fuels the aim for a #CircularEconomy approach. The iconic Eiffel Tower, standing tall at 1,083 feet, wasn't meant to last forever. In fact, it was designed with a lifespan of just 20 years! However, thanks to ongoing renovations, the tower has persevered for over a century. Now, some of this precious scrap metal has been transformed into Olympic medals for the 2024 Paris Games. This innovative approach not only honours the tower's history but also aligns with the games' commitment to sustainability. A small step towards sustainability but a giant leap in the right direction! #ParisOlympics2024 #Olympics #EiffelTower #Sustainability #ewasterecycling #recyclingvilla
