Today, GSGP kicked off an exciting new project with the Cleveland Clinic and the Cleveland Tree Coalition. In coming months, we'll plant trees in low-canopy Cleveland neighborhoods, inventory existing tools to estimate tree planting health outcomes, and create resources to promote the health benefits of trees to health care professionals and community members. Thank you Clare Nolan for sharing the findings from the California Association of Public Hospital's Safety Net Institute report on their Racial Equity Community of Practice. The report illuminates the transformative power of leadership in advancing health equity. As the Assistant Deputy Secretary of Healthcare Workforce at the California Labor & Workforce Development Agency, I'm inspired by the commitment of our public health systems to deepen their understanding of racial equity. This initiative underscores the need for strong leadership and continuous learning in our journey towards a more equitable healthcare delivery system in CA. My big takeaways: 1) invest time and effort into building a shared understanding of what we mean by racial equity; and 2) racial equity must be consciously embedded into organizational priorities and strategies. #healthequity #racialequity #transformativechangeinhealthcare

This was a fun concept developed with assistance from Cedar Group Marketing & Public Relations! It’s been performing incredibly well across all of our social platforms. Social Media is constantly changing, the algorithms can make it incredibly difficult for current and future followers to see your content… so our focus the last year has been in engagement and increasing engagement across all of our platforms. Here’s some things that I’ve noticed leading social media for SEARHC: 1. People enjoy substance. Sometimes a super simple post can work (e.g. text on a plain background) IF the words hold value and make a strong statement. 2. Trends are fun and really work the algorithm in your favor. Sometimes hopping on the bandwagon is perfectly okay. The photo below has been done by countless other accounts - it worked for them, why not work for us? (Spoiler alert: it did) 3. Showcase the heart and soul of your organization as much as you can. People won’t engage with your content if it doesn’t speak to them. No one wants to be sold to. What they will engage with: highlights of employees who they love to see, content that speaks to the past/present/and future of your organization, and why you do what you do. 4. Celebrate your wins! Our followers love to see us thriving. I know social media can be tricky, especially when you work in the healthcare, nonprofit or government realm - but it can still be fun. I’m experimenting with LinkedIn and wondered if sharing the content I help develop is helpful to others working within similar constraints. Are posts like this helpful? One of the common questions I've heard over the years about Global Medical Brigades is when we will begin our work in a new country. It doesn't happen often. Where and when to expand are comprehensive decisions that take into consideration a multitude of factors. We ask ourselves and prospective community partners questions like: - Is our collaboration scalable beyond medical relief? Will it be possible to tap into and sustain local leadership to promote access to healthcare, public health and water infrastructure, and economic development? - What are the current and potential socioeconomic strengths and challenges at local, national, and regional levels? - What needs are prioritized and requested by prospective partner communities? What resources do we have to offer? Do these align? With our impactful history of sustainable development in Central America, strong local leadership, and high stakeholder interest, communities Belize became an undeniable fit for our program. It's exciting to hear feedback live from volunteers Aaliyah and Maggie from Montclair State University!
