I recently wrote a 'think piece' on behalf of a client where I talked about how we're soon to reach a pivot point in technology and how the tools, processes and techniques, will soon be fundamentally outdated and will fail to keep pace with the rate of change.
That much is of course obvious to us all. AI, and all the other 'sexy-tech' is already making that clear. So no new news, there you'll say.
But what dawned on me the very next day, is how dislocated the future work force already are!
I've waxed lyrically about change for some while, but in recent months it struck me that the whole design of our societal model, not just employment, will be totally upended.
For instance, why spend 3 or more years in Tertiary education when the things you're off to learn will be totally transformed inside 1 year, let alone 3.
So, my moment of enlightenment is teaching me that we need to rethink society, the rules, the expectation placed upon institutions and on people, if we are to adapt and thrive, and indeed survive.
I for one don't believe that any political leader, of whatever colour has truly grasped this, nor can they, by themselves. They're dealing with the problems of today and tomorrow, and for all the noise they cannot think about the 'Next Generation', whatever smart acronym we place on it - Gen? maybe.
So, how do we solve for this seemingly intractable problem? I can honestly see no other way than taking the same approach that Mr Jobs did to computing, by radically evolving from the GUI, onto Smart Device, taking a gamble, placing bets and simply getting on with it.
Time to be brave, or time to be sensible. I'd argue it's actually both.
Discuss, if you wish?
