Honored to see such a distinguished panel of high-level leaders addressing the vital issue of bridging the global skills gap. Thank you, Omar Abbosh, Claudia Azevedo, Vimal Kapur, Joseph Ucuzoglu, Adam Grant, and Jayant Chaudhary, for championing this critical conversation. I call on this esteemed group to take bold action by collaborating with the African Union and other global partners to address poverty and environmental sustainability through skills development. Digital transformation has created opportunities to empower marginalized communities in Africa, enabling them to access education and develop the skills needed to drive inclusive growth and resilience. Let us join forces to create scalable, transformative solutions that not only close the skills gap but also tackle poverty and build sustainable futures across Africa and beyond.

A really insightful and thought-provoking session! I particularly appreciated the discussion points around leadership skills being essential for the future as we move further into the intelligent age of AI. Also the emphasis around how work-based training initiatives, such as apprenticeships, will be key to upskilling success for workforces, beyond traditional education and skilling pathways.

Very insightful and a few talking points caught my attention. Senior leaders need to learn about and use AI tools in their own work and share stories as to how they have used the tool and derived benefit from it. They must 'walk the walk' if they are to bring their company with them on the AI journey and break down resistance to its use. There has to be a positive story for workers around AI to also counter natural resistance and show these new roles as they emerge, otherwise the narrative that will gain most traction (like every technological advancement) is that AI is coming for your job. The development of the AI models and the training data used needs to be open and transparent to ensure that the tools that get developed DO NOT further entrench exclusion of certain groups based on ethnicity, physical ability etc. All of the panellists said that one of their biggest concerns about AI that gave them sleepless nights was the societal impact of AI on working people. They are not just in the business of 'maximising shareholder value' - which may be a surprise to some in the room and here!
