#WEBINAR October 31, 1 pm ET - Be Ready for Our Kids: Preparing for Everyday and Disasters Each year, 30 million children seek emergency care across the country. More than 80% of them visit community-based hospitals, and less than 20% seek care at pediatric hospitals. Every child at every hospital should receive appropriate care based on their needs. However, data shows that more than 50% of hospitals' disaster preparedness plans do not address the healthcare needs of children. In this webinar, the American Hospital Association and Region V for Kids will share evidence-based practices and protocols emergency departments can implement to address the needs of children experiencing the impact of disasters. It will also highlight ways all hospitals can better equip their emergency departments to serve children daily. 🩺 Providers and patient advocates are seeking $758 million from Congress to support the Children’s Hospitals Graduate Medical Education (CHGME) program. The American Medical Association, American Hospital Association, Academic Pediatric Association, and Children’s Hospital Association were among the over two dozen industry groups to pen a May 16 letter to Congressional leaders asking for more CHGME program funding. The groups say the program “is the most important federal investment supporting the pediatric physician workforce and access to care for the nation’s children.” Congress allocated $390 million to the CHGME program in the 2024 fiscal year (FY), the highest amount to date for the program. However, the groups stated that additional funding for FY 2025 fiscal year is necessary to address the “ongoing youth mental health crisis.” 🌟👶 #HealthcareHeroes #PediatricCare #MedicalTraining #SupportOurDoctors #ChildrensHospitals #GMEFunding #FutureDoctors #HealthcareFunding #Pediatrics #MedicalEducation #HealthcareSupport #MedicalCommunity #HospitalSupport

Delivering the words to say to cope with illness. Certified Child Life Specialist and Founder of Child Life To Go.
My first child life job was in an inner city and actually inspired a concept I center some of my upcoming Child Life To Go resources around. At the hospital I worked, many of our young pediatric patients were victims of gang related violence, including one of my first patient's I met: "Devon". I wrote a guest blog post for Deb Vilas Pedia Play blog back in the day sharing more of his story. But in summary: Devon just broke my heart with the fires he was walking through. Paralyzed from the neck down and with very minimal family support, he vowed that he would make a full recovery so that "he could have his revenge" on the people that destroyed his life. Yet, slowly over time, I began to see his heart start to soften. He began to start to wonder, "What good might actually come through this?" Though that question didn't for one second change the pain of his circumstances, it did change HOW he looked at the pain...what beauty might come from this? Stay tuned for how Child Life To Go's resources can infuse hope in hard times and deliver the words to cope with illness or injury. #childlifespecialist #childlife #childlifetogo #childlifeneeds #childlifeproblems #childliferesources #medicalresources #diagnosiseducation #beautymightcomefromthis #childlifecooperative #medical #pediatrics #parentingresources #illness #hope
