✨ Daily Dose of Health Insights November 26 ✨ 🔹 Today's Highlight: Navigating Cold and Flu Season: When to Seek Medical Care in Canada "As cold and flu season ramps up in Canada, many people are unsure whether their symptoms require a visit to the emergency room or a walk-in clinic. Respiratory illnesses like COVID-19, influenza, RSV, and pneumonia are spreading, and there are various options for care, depending on the severity of the illness. Family doctor visits, walk-in clinics, urgent care, and emergency rooms are all viable options. Dr. Kathleen Ross, a family physician, advises that the emergency room should be reserved for serious, life-threatening issues, such as chest pain, breathing difficulties, or confusion. For children, symptoms like difficulty breathing, fever lasting over five days, or dehydration are reasons to seek urgent care. For mild to moderate issues, a walk-in clinic or urgent care is recommended, especially for those without a family doctor. Pharmacists can also offer advice for managing mild symptoms and recommend treatments when appropriate. Ultimately, when symptoms are mild, resting at home with fluids may be the best course of action." 🔎 Why Stay Updated? In the rapidly evolving field of healthcare, staying informed is crucial. 🔬New Study: Salt Water Nasal Drops Can Shorten Cold Duration in Children🌡️ Research led by Professor Steve Cunningham from the The University of Edinburgh reveals that using salt water nasal drops (saline solution) can reduce the duration of colds in children by two days. This approach not only speeds up recovery but also lowers the need for additional medications and reduces the likelihood of spreading the cold within the household. Faster recovery means children can return to school sooner, and parents can get back to work quicker – a win for family health and productivity! The 2.6% salt water solution isn’t available over-the-counter yet, but DIY instructions and a video are on the way to help parents prepare it at home. Could this be the simple, effective solution families have been waiting for? Find out more: https://lnkd.in/e3dhJ2Uq #CARRii #Healthcare #PediatricResearch #FamilyHealth #ColdPrevention #Productivity

When it comes to patient care, I believe "diet" is a dirty word. Instead, patients should be encouraged to improve their heart health with simple, empowering choices: fueling their bodies with colorful fruits and vegetables, reducing animal products, alcohol, and processed foods, daily exercise, and staying informed by knowing their numbers—blood pressure, total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, and triglycerides. Monitoring blood pressure is simple with a home BP cuff, but traditional blood testing often requires a doctor’s visit or a costly at-home test kit. MyMenopauseRx is changing the game by offering women affordable self-order lab testing. Empowering them to take control of their health, women can now self-order blood tests typically ordered during a doctor’s visit. Testing is available in every state where MyMenopauseRx offers virtual care and is covered by FSA/HSA. Test results are reviewed by a Menopause Society-certified practitioner licensed in the patient’s state and securely delivered to her HIPAA-compliant dashboard. 💜 Michelle Corcoran Quest Diagnostics Jim Davis #CVD #hearthealth #menopause #perimenopause #hormonetherapy #labtesting
