🛑 "Every habitat is struggling! It's time to prioritize ecosystem restoration over endless paperwork!" Catherine Mallia MASc, our Education Manager at Reptile Encounters, shares her powerful perspective on the critical issue of Red Tape vs. Rescue. In this eye-opening article, Cat delves into the complex challenges of conservation, spotlighting the inspiring work of Dr. Emily Scicluna, who successfully had Fat-tailed Dunnarts listed as a threatened species through her PhD research. While this is a significant victory, Cat raises a crucial point—we can’t fight for every species this way. It's time to rethink our approach to conservation and streamline efforts to protect our precious ecosystems before it's too late. 🌿🐾 https://lnkd.in/gjmVN-2C #Conservation #WildlifeRescue #EcosystemRestoration #EnvironmentalProtection #ReptileEncounters

Always exciting to see catchment-scale conservation schemes in development. From "ecosystem engineers" in the form of pigs, to partnership with farmers to keep nitrate and phosphate on their land and out of waterways. "You can see how interconnected these things are. The idea is we move beyond preserving the last of what’s left in isolated, fragmented nature reserves and into a much more ambitious vision of a joined up, bigger, better, more connected landscape and seascape, with nature recovery rather than just nature conservation.” https://lnkd.in/ePUPAGMi #rewilding #naturerecovery #waterquality

A big part of NCC’s work is restoring critical ecosystems through invasive species management so that native species have the habitat they need to thrive. In Ontario, this often includes the labour-intensive removal of the province’s worst offender – phragmites. Dive into #InvasiveSpeciesAwarenessWeek by learning how NCC’s Conservation Biologist Carolyn Davies and her team managed to tackle eight hectares of this troublesome reed in just seven days! Hint: The key to effective conservation is oftentimes collaboration.

Did you know that only 5% of remaining grasslands worldwide are protected? This makes grasslands the planet’s most imperiled landscape. The Nature Conservancy Global Board Chair, Bill Frist, M.D., just penned another powerful piece for Forbes this week. This article highlights how grassland restoration work happening globally is reversing the decline of these viral habitats. Prioritizing these unique ecosystems is central to the health and well-being of our people, our native species, and our planet. If you’re curious about grasslands and restoration efforts, we encourage you to read Senator Frist’s article. It provides insights into this critical work happening on the ground here in Tennessee and beyond. #thenatureconservancy #conservation #grasslands #grasslandrestoration https://lnkd.in/eGx6VTGW

A reminder that we need to look at the whole system rather than individual species when we consider #rewilding and restoring our ecosystems. Focusing on one species alone means we often miss the wider system change that is required, such as reatoring natural processes https://lnkd.in/e4y2GCFe
