- FIRST ever U.S. nuclear plant to come back online after decommissioning began.!
- The repowering plan must be approved by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
- In the coming years, regulators are expected to require major refurbishment, rebuilding and replacement of existing equipment.
GREAT Federal and State Financial Support (seems to be a PRUDENT decision)
- The U.S. Department of Energy approved a $1.52 billion loan to Holtec International.
- The Michigan state put $300 million toward the Palisades restart.
HISTORY
Palisades*** Nuclear Plant STARTED in 1971, was SHUT DOWN in 2022, with the present aim of REstarting the 800 MWe reactor and extending its operation until at least 2051. (Potentially, a whopping 80 years.!)

Looking at my Largest Privately held Power Plant DATABASE , suggest one of the RECORD Shorter Construction Duration- Compared to Today's Nuclear Industry Experience.!
[1] First Concrete was poured on March 4, 1967.
[2] Reactor Vessel was Delivered to the Site on October 22, 1968.
[3] First nuclear chain reaction occurred on May 24, 1971.
[4] First commercial power generation took place on Dec. 31, 1971.
TOTAL DURATION = [4] - [1] = < 5 years.!
P.S: Significant progress seems to have been made by Holtec International with regard to REpowering Activities.
