📢  2024 GNTC General Assembly UIRR was pleased to attend the GNTC 2024 General Assembly and "Journée du Transport Combiné", here are the key Highlights: ♦️ Rodolphe Gintz from France’s DGITM - Direction générale des infrastructures, des transports et des mobilités (Directorate General for Infrastructure, Transport, and Mobility) emphasised that, despite budget constraints in France, public investments in Combined Transport remain not only beneficial for society but is also a wise public expenditure which should be safeguarded and boosted with private capital. ♦️ UIRR Board member and VIIA and NAVILAND CARGO Executive Chairwoman Benedicte Colin emphasised the importance of European legislations for the Combined Transport sector in France, and particular attention should be paid to ensure both French and legal framework can effectively support the sector. ♦️ Combined Transport experiences a strong recovery in 2024 after a challenging 2023  🚨The landslide in the Vallée de la Maurienne is still a critical topic because of the costly disruption of IT-FR combined transport traffic. In this regard, it has become crucial that the European Commission intervenes and supports Combined Transport operators facing exceptional expenditures due to the incident of August 2023. The UCC Work Programme, NCTS: 29 countries (Member States and other countries which are part of the Common Transit Convention) have deployed the new phase 5 of NCTS and in all countries the operations are running smoothly. North-Macedonia (MK), and Greece (GR) are expected to join during the month of December to be followed by the final group of countries with Andorra (AD), Belgium (BE), Hungary (HU), Malta (MT), Portugal (PT) and San Marino (SM) which are expected to go-live in January. It’s worth reminding that the legal deadline for the deployment by Member States (MSs), Common Transit Convention (CTC) contracting parties and economic operators to deploy and use NCTS5 is 2/12/2024. The delayed countries and the economic operators involved in transit operations in these countries are using the transitional period which runs till 21/01/2025 to get the final touches to their new system and interfaces. Attention should be drawn to the fact that besides the technical aspects also business adjustments will be needed in the way that data is collected and submitted to NCTS5. https://lnkd.in/eQVjakzf

ALI and Financial Services Ireland (FSI) were delighted to participate in the launch of Ibec's EU policy priorities for the 2024-2029 institutional cycle in Brussels. This priority document calls for “zero-emission aviation to be part of any EU competitiveness strategy to ensure the EU is a global leader in affordable SAF production, battery propulsion air mobility, hydrogen supply chain and fuelling from aircraft, and new aircraft platforms that have zero-carbon intensity”. 

Belfast Harbour was among a number of organisations which met with Scottish First Minister John Swinney this week to discuss the need for upgrades to the A75 road in South-West Scotland.   The A75 is a key economic corridor for trade between NI and the wider island, into Scotland and the rest of GB. Many of our port customers depend on it as a route to market, but it is in urgent need of upgrading – to improve safety, reduce congestion and improve the flow of goods and services. We were pleased to share our insights into the necessity of upgrades on this important highway with Mr Swinney and his team.   The First Minister said he found the meeting “helpful and informative” and would identify with the Transport Secretary the best course of action to address the issues discussed.

AETIS and its members actively contributed to the 16-17 April 2024 Working Groups’ meetings of the EETS Facilitation Platform and the EC EETS Remuneration Study. These two stakeholder events provided opportunities to reiterate AETIS’ key views: + EETS Providers must be adequately remunerated for the services they render to the Toll Chargers. + EETS Providers support CO2-based tolling but need appropriate lead timeto put in place the related data collection and user information schemes. + EETS Providers need stable environments in the Member States to be in the position to make the necessary long-term investments. + The EETS ecosystem must be a fair and level playing field. + The European Commission should get involved in EETS processes as early as possible.
