Our host, Kevin Chmura, caught up with Joe Donofrio this morning at the HFMA Western Region Symposium to discuss the buzz and key takeaways from the event. Listen in to hear all the details!
This especially happens with predominant Type A personality types with their constant need to prove themselves. But this process is such an energy and confidence drainer, resulting in negative impact on productivity. (All the more in environments where initial period sets the perspective etched in stone)
There are solutions to this situation:
1. Reducing weightage on external validation as this will focus you on things that are in your influence rather than things that are not. (One cannot please everyone, right people will see your worth anyway)
2. Constant reminders of your achievements because of which you are at a coveted position. This will help to cope with Imposter Syndrome
3. Reducing the perfectionism and being comfortable with failing fast, seeking feedback and moving ahead.

A great reminder: when we're hired, the company already saw our potential. Instead of constantly trying to prove ourselves right, our focus should be on listening, learning, and contributing.
Let's embrace 🌟 growth and collaboration 🌟 over justifying our worth.

I have seen this A LOT over the years. Nike did something similar where for the first 3 months I worked there they told me my job was basically to build relationships and learn about the company. I find a lot of new employees, especially senior executives, try to "prove themselves" by talking way too much at meetings early on. Listen, learn, grow, build relationships and it will make you that much more of an effective leader for the long-term with the organization.

Upon entering a new environment, I prioritize listening and observing. I aim to understand what is already working well and how things operate.
Only after this do I seek opportunities to contribute, focusing on areas where enhancement and elevation are needed.

I am really enjoying the thought process of this. Regardless of title or current role . Walking into a team doesn't always mean immediate results. Like studying for a test but yet your observations of the current situation/goals, gives you time to collaboratively add too or critique what your teammates are/have brought to the table. We go our whole life's to educate ourselves in hopes to add our talents and ideas to create a better solution to problems. The sound of silence can be very educational if you are truly engaged. The key is the tone at the top, being able to see disengagedment vs observations that can turn good things into extraordinary results.
