How is accommodating a student different than modifying a program for the student? Accommodating does not change the curriculum or the desired outcomes of a program. Modifying a program for a student still allows them to attend, but the outcomes to the curriculum or program can change. Example: MaryAnn wants to attend a science program but developmentally she would fit better into a younger aged program. Accommodating would be putting her in a class that better fits her needs. Modifying would be changing the assignments in the class for her age to better fit her needs. Both are great ways to help a participant in programs or students in the classroom - both giving MaryAnn a way to participate and feel included, learning and enjoying things the best way she can. #inclusion #modification #accommodate #disabilityawareness

Supporting young girls in school is essential for fostering confidence and encouraging academic success. Providing mentorship programs, promoting STEM education, and creating safe spaces for expression can empower girls to pursue their passions and break down barriers. It's important to advocate for equal opportunities and challenge stereotypes that limit their potential. You can enrol kids in the best schools, fill their backpacks with books, and set them up in front of the most qualified teachers. Still, if the spark of curiosity isn’t there (or actively extinguished each day in the face of academic pressure and disengagement, or for whatever reason), it’s all for nought. For us, the learning experience is internal, and from where it should start. And creating traits that nurture critical thinking leads to real learning. It’s about connecting with information, understanding it, and making it a part of who they are. When kids are truly engaged, they don’t just memorise—they internalise. They take ownership of their knowledge and apply it in ways that are meaningful *to them.* This internalisation process is where real, lasting learning happens, and looking at how each child practises this internalisation is part of our ethos. 💫 #ImagineIfBespoke #ImagineIfSG #Singapore #sg #decolonizingschool #selfdirectedlearning #selfdirectededucation #SDE #freetolearn #unschooling #liberatedlearners #rethinkeducation #homeschooling #unschooling #schoolisoptional #learningisnatural #freerangekids #selfdirectingit #alternativeeducation #inclusion #quote #judyarnall #education
